
SKUAST-Jammu, under the guidance of Prof. B.N. Tripathi, Vice Chancellor, successfully organized a one-day training programme on “Processing and Value Addition of Seasonal Fruits” at Bhagwati Nagar, Talab Tillo, Jammu. This event was conducted as part of the DST-funded project entitled “Documentation, Revival and Upscaling of Indigenous Knowledge Systems for Scientific Development in Pir Panjal and Shivalik Ranges of J&K UT”. The project is headed by Dr. Anil Bhat, Associate Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu. The training was designed to empower rural farm women and educate them on processing techniques and value addition for seasonal fruits. Around 30 rural farm women from the region participated in the hands-on workshop, where they were introduced to various methods of transforming seasonal fruits into value-added products. This training is expected to enhance the livelihoods of women by promoting sustainable agricultural practices and increasing income generation opportunities.

Dr. Julie D. Bandral, Professor, PHM and Co-Principal Investigator of the project, inaugurated the session and provided an insightful demonstration on the preparation of value-added fruit products. The session focused on practical and easy-to-adopt techniques for the preservation and processing of fruits aiming to create new opportunities for income while preserving indigenous knowledge. The programme proceedings were managed by Dr. Akshay Deep, Dr. Maninder Singh and Mr. Rohit Kumar who effectively coordinated the training.
