Guwahati, Aug 2 : Assam police on Monday withdrew FIR filed against Mizoram Rajya Sabha MP K Vanlalvena in connection with the border clashes which left six Assam police personnel dead. "To take this goodwill gesture ahead, I have directed Assam Police to withdraw FIR against K Vanlalvena, Hon'ble MP, Rajya Sabha from Mizoram. However, cases against other accused police officers will be pursued (sic),"

Assam EVM controversy: EC orders repolling, suspends PO, three others

New Delhi, Apr 2 (UNI) The Election Commission on Friday suspended a Presiding Officer and three others for carrying an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) in a vehicle which belonged to a Assam BJP candidate and ordered a repoll at a polling station in Ratabari seat of Assam. "Although the seals of the EVM were found intact, it has nevertheless been decided to do a re-poll at No. 149- Indira MV School of LAC 1 Ratabari(SC) as added precaution. A report has also been sought from the Special Observer," EC said in a statement.

Guwahati, Sep 25 (UNI) The Assam government today declared 20% bonus for workers of its tea gardens, while also announcing several schemes in the form of interest subvention and capital subsidy for private tea gardens in the state, especially targeting the orthodox tea production. State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said here that workers of gardens under Assam Tea Corporation Ltd (APCL) will receive 20% bonus for Durga Puja this year.
