Black fungus: DAK warns against irrational use of steroids in Covid-19...

Srinagar, May 22 (UNI) The Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) on Saturday has warned against the irrational use of steroids in Covid-19 patients as this could trigger deadly black fungal infection. “Indiscriminate use of steroids can trigger deadly black fungal infection, called mucormycosis which has reached to epidemic proportions in several states of the country,” said DAK President and influenza expert Dr Nisar ul Hassan in a statement Saturday afternoon.

Jammu GMC reports first case of Black Fungus

Jammu, May 21 (UNI) The first case of Black Fungus was reported on Friday in Government Medical College and Hospital Jammu. Hospital sources here said that the first case of Black Fungus has been diagnosed in Covid -19 patient admitted in GMC Jammu. Steroids and high sugar level is believed to be the reason for Black Fungus.

Yogi ask officials to ensure sufficient medical aid for Covid patients

Lucknow, May 20 (UNI) As the number of deaths because of black fungus is rising, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked officials to ensure sufficient quantity of medical aids required for the treatment of this dread disease. “Ensure adequate availability of all essential medicines by communicating with health experts regarding the cause and treatment of black fungus,” he said here on Thursday while adding that a letter should be sent to the Government of India requesting to increase the allocation.

Black Fungus: Action will be taken against people, institutions disobeying regulations

Chandigarh, May 18 (UNI) Taking note of the suspected outbreak of dangerous epidemic disease Mucormycosis (also known as black fungus) among immune-compromised patients, specially COVID-19 patients, the Haryana Government has made certain regulations, which if not adhered to, necessary action will be taken against the delinquent person/institution as per Section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897. Also, any person or institution or organization disobeying these Regulations or orders issued under these Regulations shall be deemed to have committed as offence punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (45 of 1860). Sharing details in this regard, Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Rajeev Arora said a Committee to review any disobeying by any person/institution or organisation of the notification or any order issued under these regulations will be constituted under chairmanship of Civil Surgeon in each district. The Committee will compromise of specialists of Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT and Epidemiologist as members to review any disobeying.
