TRAINING PROGRAMME ON MUSHROOM CULTIVATION FOR ANGANWADI WORKERS ORGANIZED AT SKUAST-JAMMU
Two days hands on training and awareness programme on mushroom cultivation was organized at Mushroom Unit, Division of Plant Pathology, SKUAST-J under the aegis of Directorate of Research, SKUAST-J. The training programme was held for the anganwadi workers of block Satwari with the objective to create awareness among the rural masses about the benefits of including mushrooms in our daily diet and livelihood security through mushroom cultivation. The trainees were briefed about the various mushrooms that can be grown under Jammu conditions and were also given hands on training on cultivation of oyster mushroom. During the training programme lectures and practical sessions were held on substrate preparation and techniques for cultivation of oyster mushroom. The participants were exposed to the technical problems that one is likely to face while cultivating mushrooms. The training programme was held under the guidance of Dr. B.N. Tripathi, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and Dr. R.K. Samnotra, Director Research, SKUAST- Jammu. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Professor and Head, Division of Plant Pathology, Dr. Sachin Gupta, Professor, Dr. Rakesh Kumar and Sh. Varun Dubey Technical Officers gave detailed lectures and conducted practical sessions for the participants. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sachin Gupta, Professor and Incharge Mushroom Unit, SKUAST-Jammu in coordination with Sh. Sachin Sharma, CDPO Satwari. An overwhelming response was observed among the participants who assured the organizers to take their message to the masses.

Divisional level trainings for Holistic Agriculture Development Programme inaugurated at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SKUAST-J, R S Pura. Dr. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu inaugurated the programme and advised for holistic development, global vision and local action. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor desired that the complete information and proper feed back is the key for successful implementation of the programme. He further desired that the message should be percolated to the end clientele i.e. farmers of J&K UT. He also stressed for participatory seed development programme to be initiated by the departments with the full participation of the farmers. The main focus should be given on achieving monitorable targets and capacity building/human resource development which is an important aspect to be considered along with technical, financial and infrastructural support for the success of this grand programme in the UT of J&K. He also told that this project is different in nature and will set an example for other states/UTs also.
Seven day Skill development programme inaugurated at ACHR, Udheywalla
Centre of Excellence in advanced Centre for Horticulture Research (ACHR), Udheywalla, SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with AICRIP on seed SKUAST-Jammu working under the dynamic leadership of Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST J inaugurated a seven day skill development programme for newly appointed gardeners and malis in Department of Horticulture started. A total of fifty garderners shall be participating in this skill upgradation programme and will undergo hand on trainings on different aspects of nursery management. Dr. Pardeep Wali, Director Research, SKUAST Jammu inaugurated the programme and urged the field men to gain maximum knowledge and skill from this programme. He thanked Director Horticulture Jammu for his vision for sending these new staff to the centre as this will have long term gains in departmental nurseries.

In the ongoing Krishi Mela -2022 organized by SKUAST- Jammu a seed conference was held to highlight the importance of quality seeds and create awareness among the masses for its utility and the role of university in providing seeds to the farmers. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Nodal officer, Mega Seed Project SKUAST-Jammu in his welcome address highlighted that the university produces 1500q of seed at university farms and KVKs though the active involvement of line departments. Prof. Pradeep Sharma, Former Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu appreciated the seed programme being run by the university in close coordination with the line departments. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu applauded the role of seed scientists in the university to provide primarily the seed of cereals and pulses to the farmers. On this occasion a MoU was signed between SKUAST- Jammu and IIWBR, Karnal regarding seed production. Ms. Mandeep Kour, IAS, Commissioner Secretary, Department of Rural Development Jammu, informed about the start-ups of GoI specially the Village entrepreneurship programme which provides financial assistance to the farmers which is required to connect entrepreneurs to market.

One day training programme on “Seed and Planting Material Production in Agricultural/Horticulture Crops” was organized by Mega Seed Project, SKUAST-Jammu under the guidance of Prof. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu for farmers at village-Parmandal, District Samba on 18, January 2022. The programme was chaired by Dr. Pradeep Wali, Director Research, SKUAST-J who in his address asked the farmers of kandi belt to join hands with All India Coordinated Research Project on seed for the production of quality seed and planting material for their area. He also advised the farmers to regularly visit the farm university so that they are aware of new technologies in the field of agriculture.
MUSHROOM CULTIVATION, A POTENTIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP FOR YOUTH: FAROOQ KHAN
Sh. Farooq Khan, Advisor to Hon’ble Lt. Governor, Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir during his recent visit to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu interacted with the undergraduate students of the Experiential Learning Programme on Mushroom Cultivation and Spawn Production. He appreciated the efforts of students who are into learning the various aspects of mushroom cultivation and spawn production. He motivated the students to take up the enterprises of mushroom cultivation and
spawn production as these are the potential enterprises of the future and moreover they are now become fully trained on various aspects of the trade. He emphasized that artificial cultivation of mushrooms round the year can be a reliable source of income generation and help the students not only earn their livelihood but they can become job providers rather than job seekers.
