Two days regional conference on Specialty Agriculture concludes at SKUAST Jammu

A two days regional conference on “Specialty Agriculture in the context of Farm Economy of Himalayan Region” concluded at SKUAST-Jammu. The conference was organized by the Division of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai. Speaking during the valedictory session of the conference Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the University informed that Krishi Vigyan Kendra will act as facilitation center for the farming community with single window solution throughout the country. Prof Sharma also stress that focus should be to transform conventional agriculture into agri-business enterprise with emphasis on specialty agriculture to overcome various challenge of Agriculture and allied sectors. Surplus management through post-harvest processing and value addition with proper branding and marketing is the key for development of Agriculture sector. Dr Sharma also stressed upon maintaining and uplifting farmers self pride and dignity. Prof Sharma emphasized that recommendation of the conference shall be beneficial for the policy makers for developing a road map of holistic development in Agriculture and allied sectors.

Farewell Accorded to Retiring Employees of SKUAST-Jammu

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) on Monday accorded a warm farewell to the retiring employees at a function held here at Baba Jitto Auditorium at SKUAST-J Chatha. The function was organized under the leadership of Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. During the function, Sh. Jai Krishan Baru, FCLA, Mega Seed, FoA, Sh. P. K. Raina, FCLA, Division of Sericulture, FoA and Sh. Vijay Kumar, Head Assistant, Registrar’s Officer were felicitated for contribution in their respective fields. Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu congratulates all the retiring officials employees and wish them healthy and happy post retired life. The function was also attended by Dr. Sumati Sharma, Former Director, DRDO, ew Delhi; Dr. S. K.; Gupta, Registrar; Dr Rakesh Nanda, Director Education, Dr. S. E. H. Rizvi, Dean, Faculty of Basic Sciences, Dr. A. K. Mondal, Dea, FoA, Sh. Madan Lal, Comptroller, Sh. Sohan Lal, Deputy Comptroller, Heads of the Division, Research Stations, Mega Seed Projects, Sr. Scientist and Heads of KVKs, Teaching faculty, non-teaching staff and students of SKUAST-J. Proceedings of the programme were conducted by Dr. Ankur Rastogi, Professor, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Dr. Vivak M Arya, Associate Professor, FoA.

National Seminar on Agriculture and more beyond 4.0 was inaugurated by Chief Guest, Sh. Manoj Sinha, Hon’ble Lt. Governor & Chancellor, SKUAST-Kashmir. The seminar was organized by MOBILIZATION Society in collaboration with SKUAST-Kashmir & SKUAST-Jammu, with main focus to discuss the impacts of various agricultural and industrial developments on farming community and industry.

VC SKUAST-J inaugurates smart classroom facility at School of Biotechnology

Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu along with Dr. Sumati Sharma, Scientist DRDO, New-Delhi visited School of Biotechnology and inaugurated smart classroom facility developed under ICAR grants. The Vice-Chancellor along with the visiting scientist and statutory officers of the University reviewed on-going research activities of the School by taking a round of the laboratories and interacting with faculty members and scholars. Prof. Sharma lauded the infrastructure developed and work being undertaken at School of Biotechnology under the leadership of Prof. R.K. Salgotra. He laid emphasis on improving oilseed brassicas for higher productivity and better oil quality. Dr. Sumati Sharma was appreciative of the research work being done by the scientists in Rice Molecular Biology, Genomics, Quality and Tissue Culture Laboratories.
