NSSSKUAST-JAMMU ORGANISED AWARENESS MARCH ON ‘NATIONAL POSHAN PAKHWARA’ 2022

4th April, NSS wing Faculty of Agriculture of SKUAST-J, under the able guidance of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. J.P.Sharma and Dean Student Welfare NSS SKUAST-J organized an awareness march in village Chatha, Jammu to commemorate 4th National Poshan Pakhwara 2022. Prof. Rajesh Katoch Dean students welfare SKUAST-J while speaking on the occasion said, ‘Behavioural changes at individual and community level is an important component to achieve the desired goals of Poshan Abhiyan, hence, NSS volunteers will be an important asset in making this event successful. Dr. Subhash C Kashyap programme coordinator NSS SKUAST-Jammu, addresses the students and motivate them for making aware the common mass about ‘Poshan Abhiyan’ and also asked students to actively participate in all such activities where NSS can contribute much. This year’s Poshan Pakhwada was celebrated from 21st March to 4th April, 2022. Under the celebrations, the emphasis was given on two broad areas viz. identification & celebration of Healthy Child, and integration of modern and traditional practices for healthy India within the thematic areas around Poshan MITRA i.e Modern, IT based, Traditional& Regional Activities.. NSS instructors escorting the group while awareness march includesDr. Arwinder Singh, Dr Kamlesh Bali, Dr NomitaLaishram, Dr. Ramphool Puniya and Neeraj Gupta. This was a part of regular activities of NSS of SKUAST-Jammu. This years the Pakhwara was celebrated Under the theme ‘integration of modern and traditional practices’.NSS Students took part in debate slogan writing and essay writings. Programme ended with a pledge for healthy meal and less use of junk food by NSS volunteers.

In the series of 75 years of Independence to celebrate Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, Agrometeorology Section, SKUAST-J under the aegis of Prof. J.P.Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and guidance of Dr. Pardeep Wali,Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu organized one day Farmer awareness programme on “Agrometeorological services for Climate Smart Agriculture” in bliock and Panchayat Nagrota at village Jagti, District Jammu on 4th April, 2022. Dr. Pardeep Wali, Director Research, SKUAST-Jammu was the Chief Guest and Sh. Arvind Baru, Chief Agriculture Officer was the guest of Honour of the programme. In this programme about 60 farmers (male and female) participated.

SKUAST-J inks MoU with NIF-India

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology,Jammu (SKUAST-J) signed Memorandum of Understanding with National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF), an autonomous body under the Department of Science and Technology, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, whose initiatives are to strengthen the grassroots technological innovations and outstanding traditional knowledge and help India become a creative and knowledge-based society by expanding policy and institutional space for grassroots technological innovators.

Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu Reviews Progress of Different Units

Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J. P. Sharma, visited different research units of Faculty of Agriculture and reviewed the progress of different ongoing developmental projects, functioning of constituent units viz., Farming System Research, Megaseed, Fisheries, organic farming, vegetable fields etc. Vice Chancellor also interacted with students pursuing B.Sc. Ag. (Hons.) and enrolled in Practical Crop Production. Prof. J. P. Sharma appreciated the efforts of students and course instructor for running the course in a wonderful manner. He interacted with the students and informed that this course expresses the basic principles involved in the production of field crops stressing the importance of field crop management and other agronomic practices that can bring about improve crop yield under good management practices.

SKUAST-Jammu Organizes Institute Industry Interaction Meet under NAHEP-IDP

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) Organised Institute Industry Interaction Meet under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) for the institutional development of SKUAST-J. The meet was organized for boosting innovation and entrepreneurship among the agriculture and veterinary students and professionals of the university. SKUAST-J Vice Chancellor, Prof. J. P. Sharma who was the chief guest during the meet talked about the university’s focus towards creating an ecosystem for innovation and startups. Vice Chancellor suggested for subject specific mentorship to Under Graduate students for enhancing their knowledge and innovative ideas. Prof. J.P Sharma outlined the importance of boosting the start-up ecosystem in the agriculture sector. He congratulated young students for presenting their idea nicely and advised them to come up with new innovative ideas for processing and value addition of agri-produce, developing competencies in packaging, branding and marketing of agri-business products.

Farewell Accorded to Retiring Professor and Non Teaching Employees of SKUAST-Jammu

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) on Thursday accorded a warm farewell to the retiring Professor and Non-Teaching employees at a function held here at Baba Jitto Auditorium at SKUAST-J Chatha. The function was organized under the leadership of Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. During the function, Prof Bikram Singh, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Head, Division of Plant Breeding and Genetics, Sh. Dharam Paul, Estates Officer; Sh. Raman Kumar Sharma, Accounts Officer and Smt. Sudershana Devi, OCC were felicitated for contribution in their respective fields. Prof. Bikram Singh retired after rendering 37 years of service in various capacities and have contributed in teaching, research, and extension activities of the university besides administration in various committees of University. Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu congratulates all the retiring officials ad wish them healthy and happy post retired life.

SKUAST-Jammu Distributes Irrigation Kits

Water Management Research Centre, Jammu under its SC Sub Plan of AICRP (IWM) organised a field day to commemorate World Water Day. Prof. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu handed irrigation kits to 65 Schedule Caste farmers from villages Khandwal, Tehsil Jammu, Laliana of Bishnah and Gho-Brahmana of district Samba. Prof. J. P. Sharma in his address impressed upon the farmers to harness the advance technologies in field of water management and provides valuable suggestions for doubling their farm income. Dr. A. K. TRAINING PROGRAMME ON MUSHROOM PRODUCTION FOR RURAL LIVELIHOOD SECURITY HELD AT...

One day training cum awareness programme on mushroom production for rural livelihood security was held at Mushroom Unit, SKUAST-J under the aegis of Mega seed Project, SKUAST- Jammu. The programme was jointly organized by AICRP on Seeds and AICRP on Mushrooms in collaboration with Division of Plant Pathology. The training programme was held exclusively for the women farmers under the patronage of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu, Dr. J.P. Sharma and able guidance of Dr. Pardeep Wali, Director Research and Dr. Bikram Singh, Dean, FoA of the University. The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Amrish Vaid, Nodal Officer, Mega Seed Project and Head, Division of Plant Pathology. He stressed upon the benefits of mushroom cultivation and motivated women farmers to adopt mushroom cultivation to secure their livelihood. The trainees were given hands on training on various aspects of cultivation and care of various cultivated mushrooms. During the training programme Dr. Vishal Raina, Dr. Anjani Kumar and Dr. Rakesh Kumar gave lectures and practical sessions were held on substrate preparation and care of crop in the cropping room.

SKUAST Jammu organizes Interaction Meet Under NAHEP-IDP

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu under the guidance of Prof. J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu organized Interaction Meet for the students wherein Dr. Prabhat Kumar, Horticulture Commissioner and National Coordinator, National Agricultural Higher Education Project - Centre of Advanced Agricultural Science & Technology (NAHEP -CAAST) interacted and deliberated upon role of NAHEP-IDP in enhancing the knowledge and shaping the career of Under Graduate students. Dr. Prabhat advised students to travel during their learning stage to make it more dynamic which helps to gain passive knowledge. He said that NAHEP-IDP project is first of its kind in the country and is actually for under graduate students centric. He urges the students to focus on physical learning more to enhance knowledge and skills as digital learning can be supplemental to physical learning but not substitutional.
