Poplar Plantation Drive at Organic Farm, SKUAST-Jammu

Dr. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu kickstarted planation drive at the Organic Farming Research Center, SKUAST Jammu by planting a Poplar sapling. Poplar plant, a fast-growing tree, is planted in winter season only and provides returns for the farmers. Speaking at the event, Dr. J. P. Sharma said that economically important trees are an integral part of the natural farming system. He said that owing to increased awareness with respect to environment and quality food, our society is slowly moving towards organic and natural farming-based food products.

Production to Agri-Business and Smart Agriculture is the key: VC, SKUAST-Jammu

Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu inaugurated training programme on Quality Seed Production on Field crops organized by Mega Seed Project in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu, SKUAST-J at R.S. Pura Campus. The Programme was attended by district level officers, Subject Matter Specialists, Agriculture Extension Officers from Department of Agriculture Jammu. Speaking on the occasion Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu stressed upon improvement in Seed replacement rate of various crops.

Agri-Business Incubator, SKUAST-Jammu organizes webinar on Cloud Computing

Agri-Business Incubator, SKUAST-J, a unit of Division of Agricultural Economics & ABM, sponsored by MoA & FW in collaboration with NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu and under the guidance of Prof. J P Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, organized a webinar for budding entrepreneurs, students and faculty members on “Cloud Computing for Agri-Business.” The session was delivered by Mr. Aditya Kachroo, Cloud Consultant, CEVO Australia. He explained the basic concepts of cloud computing to the participants and how it is changing the modern technology based businesses. He also talked about the traditional data hosting methods and how cloud computing has a distinct edge over them. He listed the main advantages of cloud computing over other methods. He also informed about the top players in the market in this field along-with the entry methods to initiate the process of hosting through cloud computing. After the lecture the speaker interacted with the students and faculty members and answered their doubts and queries.

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu organizes lecture of Dr. Andrew Jones

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu and Division of Biochemistry under the guidance of Prof. J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, organized online guest lecture for the students and Faculty members on“Engineering the biosynthesis of psychedelics: A novel class of therapeutics”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. J. Andrew Jones, Department of Chemical,Paper and Biomedical Engineering, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, USA. In his lecture, Dr. Jones highlighted that psychedelics are a novel class of therapeutics positioned to fulfill an unmet need in mental health treatment. He added that current synthesis strategies struggle to deliver the quantities and quality of product necessary for the pharmaceutical market in a competitive and cost-efficient manner. He further talked about development of a fermentation-based psilocybin production platform using synthetic biology-driven metabolic engineering.

Progress of Research Projects Funded by NABARD Reviewed

A meeting of National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) officials and Officers of SKUAST-Jammu was held on 31.01.2022 through virtual mode to discuss the status of ongoing projects funded under technology transfer fund. The meeting was convened by NABARD under the chairmanship of Chief General Manager NABARD J&K UT wherein Prof. JP Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu was the special Guest. Presently, NABARD J&K Regional Office has sanctioned 10 number of DPR mode projects to SKUAST-Jammu. The main objective of these projects is to promote innovation in the agriculture and its allied sectors for enhancing the production and productivity. The Principal Investigators of various sanctioned projects deliberated about the progress and action plan of their project. Prof. J.P. Sharma appreciates NABARD Jammu for conducting frequent review meetings to know the progress of the projects.

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu organizes lecture on agripreneurship

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu and the Counselling and Placement Cell, under the guidance of Prof. J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, organized online guest lecture for the students on “Introduction to Agri-preneurship and Startup Ecosystem”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Sagar Deshmukh, Faculty (Agri-Business Management), MANAGE, Hyderabad. In his lecture Dr. Deshmukh gave comprehensive account of agripreneurship process and government initiatives. He also talked about startup ecosystem and requirements for an entity to be classified under startup.

University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology-Jammu. Krishi Vigyan Kendra, R.S.Pura, Jammu

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu concluded three days training prog. on “Post-Harvest processing and Value addition of Fish under CIFT Schedule Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) project“Entrepreneurship development among Scheduled Caste (SC) communities through Post-Harvest management and value addition of fishes” at KVK Jammu w.e.f. 19-21th January, 2022. The objective of the training was to demonstrate the protocol for post-harvest handling and preparation of value added products from fish in order to create awareness for livelihood support among SC community through initiating small scale entrepreneurship. The trainees comprised of 20 youth belonging to Jammu district.

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu organizes lecture on soft skills

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu, under the guidance of Prof. J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, organized online guest lecture for the students on “Leadership Attributes and Decision Making”. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Vishal Bector, Professor and Associate Director (Industrial Linkages), Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana. In his lecture Dr. Bector talked about the qualities of good leader such as forward looking, competent, honest, empower people, inspire people, set examples, lead change and should have vision.

Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu, R S Pura conducted Veterinary oath ceremony of passing out graduates of batch 2016. The chief guest of the function and Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu, Prof. J P Sharma, distributed the internship completion certificate to the veterinary graduates. Prof. Sharma congratulated to passing out veterinary graduates and highlighted the role of veterinarians in the society and emphasized on ethical value while treating animals. He also stressed upon that in coming days, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry sector has a bright future as agricultural lands are squeezing at a rapid pace. He encouraged the budding veterinarians to become job provider than job seeker by opting for various entrepreneurship opportunities available in the country.
