NCW sponsored training programme for women empowerment concludes at SKUAST-Jammu

Under the able guidance and leadership of Prof. Jagdish Prashad Sharma, Honble Vice- Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, the sixth 5 days training programme on Empowering (capacity building) of women through livestock farming w.e.f 7th -11th November 2022 concludes at Division of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST- Jammu, R.S. Pura. This training, sixth in series of twelve number of five days training programme in the financial year 2022-23 was being sponsored by National Commission for Women (NCW), Govt. of India, New Delhi under their capacity building programmes.

ICICI Foundation Campus Placement Drive in SKUAST Jammu

ICICI Foundation Mumbai conducted a campus placement drive at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. The Campus Placement Drive for SKUAST Jammu Agriculture students was organized by a Campus Recruitment Panel comprising of Prachi A Malapur, Deputy Manager, Human Resource and Abhay Sharma, Zonal Head, North India, ICICI Foundation. After successfully completing a stringent campus selection procedure that included group discussion and personal interview, the ICICI Campus Recruitment Panel selected four B.Sc. (Hons) Agriculture final year students Gourav Sabharwal, Ujala Billawaria, Stanzin Lakphel and Kavya Koshal for internship and two others Neha Kumar and Irrha Sheikh for final employment. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu, congratulated all selected students, and advised them to be sincere and honest towards their jobs. Dr. Rakesh Nanda, Director Education, Dr. S.K. Gupta, Registrar and Prof. Sanjay Guleria, Incharge Counselling and Placement Cell were also present during interaction of selected students with the Vice-Chancellor.

Farewell Accorded to Retiring Employees of SKUAST-Jammu

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) on Monday accorded a warm farewell to the retiring employees at a function held here at Baba Jitto Auditorium at SKUAST-J Chatha. The function was organized under the leadership of Prof J P Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. During the function, Dr A K Mondal Dean Faculty of Agriculture, Sh Babu Ram Account officer, FVSc& AH and Sh Ravinder Kumar Bhat FCLA Division of Entomology were felicitated for contribution in their respective fields.

SKUAST Jammu through their Krishi Vigyan Kendra at district level has initiated Jan Abhiyan and series of mass awareness programmes across Jammu region. Prof J P Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST Jammu briefed that mass awareness programmes on various themes including, CENTRALLY SPONSORED SCHEMES FODDER PRODUCTION, MUSHROOM PRODUCTION, POULTRY FARMING, BEE KEEPING, NATURAL FARMING, FISH FARMING, INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM, CONCEPT OF FPOs and DIVERSIFICATION covering almost hundred panchayats across ten districts of Jammu region has been initiated for the welfare of the farming community by the farm university. Prof J P Sharma also advocated regarding maintaining the self-pride of the farmers viz.a.viz practicing extension beyond production for attaining sustainability and self-sufficiency in agriculture and allied sector. Prof J P Sharma further instructed all the KVK’s to actively work in coordination with all line department for improving the overall socioeconomic upliftment of the farming community. The newly established Statistical Data Analysis Cell (SDAC) lab and smart classroom in the Division of Statistics and Computer Science inaugurated with main objective of disseminating the knowledge of latest Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning procedures among the academicians and researchers for proper policy planning and good decision making in context to agricultural research through organization of various trainings and workshops. The inauguration was done by Shri Atal Dulloo (IAS) Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Agriculture Production and Farmers Welfare Department in gracious presence of Prof. J.P. Sharma Hon’ble Vice chancellor SKUAST-Jammu. Shri Atal Dullo along with the Prof.J.P Sharma Vice Chancellor SKUAST Jammu and Prof. Nazir Ahmad Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir reviewed on-going research activities of the Division and interacted with research scholars of the division. Shri. Atal Dullo lauded the infrastructure developed and work being undertaken at the Division of Statistics and Computer Science. During this occasion Professor Manish Sharma, Head Division of Statistics and Computer Science briefed about the overview of lab which has been designed to impart detailed knowledge to the research scholars and faculty members about the prevailing concepts related to the field of artificial intelligence, Machine learning and data visualization. He further maintained that this lab has been setup to sensitize scholars and faculty members about latest statistical technique for handling complex data set and to provide technical support with focus in areas of statistical modelling and experimental design. Prof Vikas Sharma, Associate Coordinator, IDP-NAHEP also appraise the dignitaries about the IDP and the motto about to develop the smart classroom. Further he also deliberated that the state of art smart class room is loaded with all necessary audio visual services, interactive boards and LCD panels with packed internet connectivity. The programme was attended by Dr. Rakesh Nanda (Director Education), Dr. A K Mondal (Dean, FoA), Dr. S.E.H. Rizvi Dean (FBSc.), Dr. Susheel K. A two days’ International conference on “Existing Climate Change Scenario and its Arising Risks” commenced from today at SKUAST-Jammu. The conference is being organized by Mahima Research Foundation and Social Welfare & Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu The conference was inaugurated by Sh. Atal Dulloo (IAS), Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Agriculture Production Department Jammu and Kashmir UT who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. In his inaugural address, Sh. Atal Dulloo congratulated SKUAST-Jammu for organizing this mega event timely on the very relevant topic.

Agri-StartUps incubated at Agri-Business Incubator, SKUAST-Jammu under the patronage of Prof. J.P Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-J and supervision of Prof. Jyoti Kachroo, Director P&M, Head AEABM & P.I, RKVY-RAFTAAR project of Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Govt. of India have brought laurels to the institute by showcasing their innovative technologies at the prestigious two days Agri-Conclave and PM Kisan Samman Sammelan event from 17-18, October, 2022 at IARI, New Delhi inaugurated by the Hon’ble PM of India, Sh. Narendra Modi in the presence of Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Sh. Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Sh. Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of State for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, Sh. Kailash Choudhary. The event was organized at a grand level and involved participation of high level govt. functionaries, dignitaries, close to 15000 farmers, 300 innovative start-ups, various scientists, academicians and corporate/industry professionals from all around the country. Around 300 start-ups were selected by the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, GoI from among thousands of prospects from all over the country for showcasing their innovations and technologies in this mega event after following a rigorous selection process wherein various parameters like innovation, design, scalability, benefit to community, revenue generated and investment attracted etc. were taken into consideration. The start-ups of ABI, SKUAST-J selected for showcasing their innovative technologies included Mr. Nikky Kumar Jha, founder of Saptkrishi Scientific Pvt. Ltd. who has developed a unique post-harvest storage set up which is a low cost, wheel mountable storage for transportation of fresh fruits and vegetables for small scale farmers and road-side sellers. The other selected start-up was Mr. Umang Kalra, founder of Octaflyte Technologies Pvt. Ltd. who has developed GIS & Remote Sensing Powered agricultural solutions using drone technology. The start-ups were accompanied by Co-P.I’s of RKVY-RAFTAAR project, Dr. Sudhakar Dwivedi, Prof. AEABM & Dr. Anil Bhat, Asstt. Prof. AEABM. The pavilion management was looked after by staff of ABI, SKUAST-J, Dr. Yamini Raut & Mr. Tarunjeet Singh. The start-up pavilion was visited by the Chief Guest & Hon’ble PM of India, Sh. Narendra Modi Ji along-with various other dignitaries. One of the leading research and teaching universities worldwide, Stanford University has published its annual “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list this week that featured the mostwidely cited scientists in different disciplines. The list included researchers from Indian universities. Dr. Zuhaib F. Bhat, Assistant Professor of Division of Livestock Products Technology at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu), has again made it to this list of top 2% scientists this year. An alumnus of Lincoln University of New Zealand, Dr. Bhat has more than 10 years of teaching and research experience. He has more than 100 publications on different aspects of animal foods. The Dean Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, Dr. M. S. Bhadwal and Honourable Vice- Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. J. P. Sharma congratulated the scientist.
