SKUAST-J to host International Conference on ‘Existing Climate Change Scenario and...

A two days International Conference on ‘Existing Climate Change Scenario and its Arising Risks’ is going to be organized by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu in collaboration with Mahima Research Foundation and Social Welfare, BHU, Varanasi from October 21-22, 2022 at Main Campus Chatha, Jammu. The main objective of two days international conference is to focus on vulnerabilities arising and potential mitigation strategies for sustainable agriculture development and livelihood security under climate change scenario. The conference will be inaugurated by Sh. Atal Dulloo, IAS, Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Agriculture Production Department, J&K Govt. on 21st October, 2022.

SKUAST-Jammu and ICAR-CCRI Nagpur Inks MOU

The ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute (ICAR-CCRI) Nagpur, Maharashtra signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) here at Chatha, today, with the aim to promote academia and research co-operation between the two Institutes in the area of Fruit Sciences. Dr. Dilip Ghosh Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur and Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations, in presence of Dr. A.A. Murkute, Principal Scientist and Dr. A. Thirugnanavel, Senior Scientist (Horticulture) from ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur, and Dr. Pardeep Wali, Director Research, Dr. A.K. Mondal, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Sushil K. Gupta, Dean Faculty of Horticulture & Forestry and Dr. Amit Jasrotia, Professor & Head, Division of Fruit Science from SKUAST-Jammu.

Clean India 2.0 Mega Swachhta Drive organised by NSS SKUAST-J

Under the able guidance of Prof. J.P.Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and Dean Student’s Welfare, Dr Rajesh Katoch National Service Scheme organised ‘Mega swachhta Drive’ at Main Campus Chatha. NSS students of faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Horticulture and Forestry participated and collected about 170 kg of Plastic and other hard waste from within the campus besides about 70 kg of waste have been collected and disposed off safely by the NSS students at their own localities. The programme was a part of month long ‘Clean India Campaign 2.0’. Students took pledge to keep environment free from plastic waste and will follow the 3R rule i.e. Reduce, Reuses and Recycle. In the drive Dr. Subhash C Kashyap, NSS programme Coordinator, Dr. Sushmita Dadich, Dr R Punia and Dr Veena Sharma NSS Programme officers also took part Mr Neeraj Gupta, Abdul Majeed, and Nazir Hussain supervised the activities.

APEDA in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jammu organized Kissan Sammelan. Sh Jugal Kishor Sharma Member Parliament Jammu Poonch Constituency was the Chief Guest and Prof J P Sharma Hon'ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST JAMMU was the Special Guest of Honour during the programme.

ADC Jammu interact with SKUAST-J students

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu and Counselling and Placement Cell organized a lecture on guidance for civil services. On this occasion, Harvinder Singh, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jammu interacted with the students and shared his experiences about preparation for civil service examination. He discussed the various elements of the civil services exam with the students and emphasized that consistency in preparation, clarity, and confidence are essential for success. While recommending various preparation tools, he emphasized the value of offline and internet materials and placed special focus on reading magazines and newspapers like Vision IAS, Indian Express, and Economic Times, among others. In addition, he also recommended books for general studies papers. After the lecture there was a healthy interaction in which ADC Jammu answered the queries of students about civil services exam. The lecture was attended by more than sixty students from different faculties. The motivational speaker series is a part of the expert lecture initiative of the Counselling and Placement Cell & NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu, under the guidance of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor as a part of which civil officers (IAS, IPS and KAS), military officers, and people from academia and civil society share their experiences with students. The lecture was convened by Prof. Sanjay Guleria, Incharge Counseling and Placement Cell. Dr. Rakesh Nanda, Director Education, Dr. B.C. Sharma, Prof. & Head and PI NAHEP-IDP SKUAST Jammu, Dr. Sanjay Khajuria, Inharge, KVK Samba and other faculty members also attended the lecture. Ms. Sanveet Kour, Young Professional provided the technical support.

Training on livestock diseases diagnostics conducted at SKUAST-Jammu

State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute of Jammu (SAMETI-J) in collaboration with Division of Veterinary Physiology & Biochemistry, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu, organized a two days training programme from 28th-29th September, 2022 on Field deployable investigative techniques for livestock health management for Veterinary officers from Sheep Husbandry department, Jammu and Kashmir. The training was attended by 10 participants from Sheep Husbandry departments, Jammu and Kashmir. Dr Pratiksha Raghuwanshi, Associate Professor, Division of Vety. Physiology & Biochemistry, F.V.Sc & A. H., SKUAST-J was the training coordinator. Expert lectures on various diagnostic techniques were delivered to the participants by Dr Jonali Devi, Prof and Head Division of Vety. Physiology & Biochemistry, Dr Anish Yadav, Prof, Division of Vety. Parasitology, Dr Biswajit Brahma, Prof. Division of Livestock Production and Management, Dr Ankur Rastogi, Professor, Division of Animal Nutrition, Dr Neelesh Sharma, Prof., Division of Vety. Two days regional conference on Specialty Agriculture concludes at SKUAST Jammu

A two days regional conference on “Specialty Agriculture in the context of Farm Economy of Himalayan Region” concluded at SKUAST-Jammu. The conference was organized by the Division of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai. Speaking during the valedictory session of the conference Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the University informed that Krishi Vigyan Kendra will act as facilitation center for the farming community with single window solution throughout the country. Prof Sharma also stress that focus should be to transform conventional agriculture into agri-business enterprise with emphasis on specialty agriculture to overcome various challenge of Agriculture and allied sectors. Surplus management through post-harvest processing and value addition with proper branding and marketing is the key for development of Agriculture sector. Dr Sharma also stressed upon maintaining and uplifting farmers self pride and dignity. Prof Sharma emphasized that recommendation of the conference shall be beneficial for the policy makers for developing a road map of holistic development in Agriculture and allied sectors.

Regional Conference on Specialty Agriculture begins at SKUAST-Jammu

A two days regional conference on “Specialty Agriculture in the context of Farm Economy of Himalayan Region” commenced from today at SKUAST-Jammu. The conference is being organized by the Division of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with Indian Society of Agricultural Economics, Mumbai. In his inaugural address, Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the University who was the chief guest on the occasion congratulated the Division of Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness Management for organizing this mega event. He said that in the present era, agriculture is facing lot of challenges regarding water scarcity, declining land availability, land fragmentation, wastage of agriculture produce, disinterest of youth towards agriculture and migration of rural people towards urban areas.

SKUAST-JAMMU CELEBRATES ITS 24th FOUNDATION DAY

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST –Jammu) celebrated its 24th Foundation Day at Baba Jitto Auditorium, Main campus, Chatha in which Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary J&K (UT) was the chief guest. The programme started with the lightning of traditional lamp by the dignitaries. Chief Guest, Dr. A.K. Mehta inaugurated the exhibition at Baba Jitto Auditorium depicting various technologies and FPOs promoted by different KVKs of SKUAST-Jammu.

NCW sponsored 3rd training for women concludes at SKUAST-Jammu

Under the able guidance and leadership of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Honble Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu, a five days training programme on Empowering (capacity building) of women through livestock farming concludes at Division of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, SKUAST- Jammu, R.S. Pura. This, third in series of twelve number of five days training programme in the financial year 2022-23 was being sponsored by National Commission for Women (NCW), Govt. of India, New Delhi under their capacity building programmes.
