Impressive Flower show, Dog Show and Seed Conference were Main attractions...

In the ongoing Krishi Mela -2022 organized by SKUAST- Jammu a seed conference was held to highlight the importance of quality seeds and create awareness among the masses for its utility and the role of university in providing seeds to the farmers. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Nodal officer, Mega Seed Project SKUAST-Jammu in his welcome address highlighted that the university produces 1500q of seed at university farms and KVKs though the active involvement of line departments. Prof. Pradeep Sharma, Former Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu appreciated the seed programme being run by the university in close coordination with the line departments. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu applauded the role of seed scientists in the university to provide primarily the seed of cereals and pulses to the farmers. On this occasion a MoU was signed between SKUAST- Jammu and IIWBR, Karnal regarding seed production. Ms. Mandeep Kour, IAS, Commissioner Secretary, Department of Rural Development Jammu, informed about the start-ups of GoI specially the Village entrepreneurship programme which provides financial assistance to the farmers which is required to connect entrepreneurs to market.

Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu congratulated the incubates of Agri Business incubator, SKUAST-J for bringing laurels to the institute by winning 1st and 3rd position at the ‘Startup Competition for Enterprising Teams with Million Dollar Ideas’’ organized by IIT Jammu’s Institute Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Centre (I2EDC). Development of agri entrepreneurship has been one of the core goals of Prof. J P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor and he has been working tirelessly for achieving this goal.

Vocational course under NAHEP-IDP concludes at SKUAST-Jammu

One week vocational course on ‘Application of computer and IT tools in improving learning and research efficacy of students’ organized by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu under National Agricultural Higher Education Project-Institutional Development Plan (NAHEP-IDP) concluded here today. Prof. J.P. Sharma, VC SKUAST-Jammu was chief guest during the valedictory function. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Sharma congratulated members of organizing committee and participants on successful completion of training course.

NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu Starts One week Training Course for Students

With an objective to strengthen institutional capacities for delivering competent skilled professionals, NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-Jammu today started one week vocational training course for 25 students of the university on ‘Application of computer and IT tools in improving learning and research efficacy of students’. Dr. R.C. Agrawal, DDG (Education), ICAR, New Delhi and National Director NAHEP, IDP was the chief guest and Prof. J.P. Sharma, V.C. SKUAST-Jammu was the guest of honour on the occasion.

SKUAST-Jammu celebrates 73rd Republic Day

SKUAST-Jammu celebrates 73rd Republic Day with great fervor and gaiety. Vice- Chancellor, Prof. J.P. Sharma extended his Republic Day greetings to the Teaching and Non- Teaching staff of the university. The Republic Day ceremony commenced with unfurling the National flag followed by National Anthem. In his address, Prof. Sharma highlighted that the share of agriculture in the economy of J&K has increased to 30 per cent in 2021 earlier which was 25 per cent only.

VC SKUAST-J reviewed ready to release crop varieties

Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu Prof. J.P. Sharma today took review of the crop varieties that are ready for release by SKUAST-Jammu. Prof. Pardeep Wali, Director Research, welcomed all the participants and apprised the house that eleven varieties are ready for being proposed by different teams of scientists of SKUAST-J for release. Powerpoint presentations of the ready to release crop varieties were delivered during the meeting in the Conference Hall of the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat by the concerned scientists before the Director Research, Head of the Divisions and the Research Evaluation Committee members of the University.

MUSHROOM CULTIVATION: A KEY ENTERPRISE FOR YOUTH

Shri Rohit Kansal, IAS, Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Govt. of Jammu and Kashmir during his recent visit to Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu interacted with the undergraduate students of the Experiential Learning Programme on Mushroom Cultivation and Spawn Production. He appreciated the efforts of faculty and students and motivated them to take up mushroom cultivation and spawn production as an enterprise as they have now become fully trained on various aspects of the trade. He emphasized that artificial cultivation of mushrooms round the year can be a reliable source of income generation and help the students not only earn their livelihood but they can become job providers rather than job seekers. He stressed upon the students to take up the enterprise of spawn production in Jammu region so that the demand of the farmers regarding availability of spawn is taken care of. Dr. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the University introduced the Minister to various Experiential Learning Programmes being run in the University.
