One day inception seminar was organised on “Crop Insurance Scheme” by Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) at CSIR-Institute of Himalayan Bioresource Technology (IHBT) Palampur H.P. The programme was organised under the chairmanship of Dr. P. L. Gautam, Pro-Chancellor Career Point University and Former Vice Chancellor GB Pant University of Agriculture & Technology, Pantnagar, in the presence of Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST-Kashmir, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Director CSIR-IHBT, Dr. Jag Paul Sharma, Director Research SKUAST-Jammu. The seminar was conceptualized on the theme of crop insurance under international project of SKUAST-Jammu funded by South Asian Network for Development and Environmental Economics (SANDEE)-ICIMOD.

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu is organizing five days Northern India regional Agriculture Fair – 2021 w.e.f October 07-11, 2021 at Main Campus, Chatha. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Chief Patron of the Agriculture Fair during interaction with Press and Media inform that the Northern India regional Agriculture Fair – 2021 would focus on demonstration of the transferable technologies developed by the university to improve agricultural productivity, profitability and sustainability in the Jammu region. Shri Manoj SinhaJi, Hon’ble Lt. Governor, UT of J&K has very kindly consented to be the Chief Guest on inaugural function of this five days mega event of Regional Agriculture Fair on 8th October, 2021.

Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), asserted that in the present scenario livestock sector has the potential to become a catalyst in the rural economic development of the UT of J&K. He was interacting with the scientists of Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, R.S. Pura under ‘Talk at Lawn’ programme. This unique programme, a brain-child of Prof. Sharma, aimed at getting feedback from the ground level and to have one-to-one interaction with faculty members. Vice-Chancellor interacted with the scientists from the Divisions of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, & Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.

VC SKUAST-Jammu launches Swachta Abhiyan Pakhwara

Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) launches “Swachhta Abhiyan” pakhwada for cleanliness as a prelude to Gandhi Jayanti celebration at R.S Pura campus under the aegis of NSS initiative. While interacting with the NSS volunteers/students and residential staffs, Prof. Sharma remembered Gandhi Ji’s thoughts and teachings and asked the gathering to follow them in spirit and practice. He, also inspected the facilities and amenities of the faculty and listened to grievances of the residents. Prof. Sharma congratulated the Dean and all the faculty members for the successful visit of VCI inspection team.

In the leadership of Prof. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and SKUAST Kashmir, under the ambit of IDP-National Agriculture Higher Education Project (NAHEP) SKUAST-Jammu funded by World Bank and ICAR, New Delhi, a national webinar was organised by the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences & Animal Husbandry, SKUAST-Jammu on the topic "Empowering Vet: Interaction for Career planning" on 2 nd October, 2021 through virtual platform to sensitise the Veterinary students regarding entrepreneurship. Total more than 150 students registered for the said programme. The talks were delivered by four dynamic and eminent speakers taken from industry and also entrepreneur, who started early. In the opening address, Dr. Neelesh Sharma, Organizing Secretary, introduced the speakers. Dr. Vikash Sharma, Associate Coordinator, IDP, expressed the very theme of IDP-NAHEP and the role of SKUAST- Jammu in terms of instigating the student in to highly skilled professional who could contribute to society. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, stressed upon the need to capitalise upon the meager land resources, need of the youth to innovate in livelihood security of the masses, and transform the Agriculture in to a way of life.

Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu. The webinar was organized to discuss the relevance of Agri-Entrepreneurship in taking the country forward towards an Atmanirbhar Bharat. Prof. J. P. Sharma, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor expressed that the Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign is a launch-pad to boost entrepreneurship, nurturing innovation and development of an environment for rural-urban symbiotic development.

Jammu : Shere-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu is organizing two days Innovative Farmers Conference on “Farmer Led Innovations for Enhancing Farm Income” to harness first-hand experiences of innovative farmers, at Main Campus, Chatha from February 23-24, 2021. Prof. J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu and Chief Patron of the conference hopes that the two days conference will address the emerging challenges of agriculture like declining farm size, deterioration of soil health, groundwater depletion, increase in cost of production, labour scarcity and climatic shocks etc, which is essential for efficient, sustainable and inclusive development of agriculture and to realize Prime Ministers' vision of doubling farmers' income.
