Militant killed in Bandipora

Srinagar, May 11 : A militant who is believed to have infiltrated recently from Pakistan has been killed in an ongoing gunfight in Kashmir's Bandipora district, police said on Wednesday. The gun battle erupted between militants and security forces during a cordon and search operation in the Salinder forest area. “As the search party proceeded towards the suspected spot, the hidden terrorists fired indiscriminately. This was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter," a police officer said. Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar said the slain was part of a newly infiltrated group. An AK rifle and three magazines were recovered. Almost at the same time, another encounter broke out at Marhama Bijbehara in Anantnag district, also during a cordon and search operation. 3 militants killed in Anantnag

Srinagar, May 6 : Security forces shot dead three militants in the upper reaches of Kashmir's Anantnag district, officials said. The encounter erupted at Sirchand Top in Pahalgam when security forces launched an anti-militancy operation. “As the team approached the spot, terrorists fired upon them which was retaliated. In the gun battle, three terrorists has been killed,” a police officer said. The police said the militants were affiliated with the Hizbul Mujahideen. One of them may be a commander who has been active since 2016. The encounter took place at a time when Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up to host the Shri Amarnath Yatra, which is physically taking place after two years.

62 militants killed in Kashmir this yr: Police

Srinagar, April 28 : This year 62 militants have been killed in various gunfights in Kashmir and 15 out of them were foreigners, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Vijay Kumar said on Thursday. Majority among the killed were affiliated with Pakistan based Lashkar-e-Toiba. The senior Police officer said 39 militants of Lashker, 15 from Jaish-e-Mohammad , six from Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and two from Al-Badr were killed during gunfights. “Among the total 62 killed terrorists, 47 were local terrorists & 15 #foreign terrorists,” a tweet quoting IGP said.

J&K ACB produces chargesheet against 13 govt officials in misappropriation case

Srinagar, April 28 : J&K Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday has produced chargesheet against three General Managers of District Industries Centre (DIC) and ten others in misappropriation of transport subsidy in frontier Kupwara District. In a statement , the ACB produced chargesheet against the accused public servants identified as Abdul Hamid Bhat, Fayaz Ahmed Shafie, Mohammadd Ashraf Janwari the then General Managers of DIC Kupwara, and Masood Karim the then Manager Development DIC Kupwara, Abdul Gani Kirmani Industrial Promotion Officer (IPO) DIC Kupwara, Abdul Ahad Khan (expired) IPO DIC Kupwara, Ghulam Nabi Mir the then Block Investigator DIC Kupwara, Zahoor Ahmad Shah the then Manager Accounts J&K Bank Barzulla Branch Srinagar and) Aijaz Ahmad Kitab the then Manager Accounts J&K Bank Solina Branch Srinagar, Feroz Ahmed Lone, Abdul Karim Lone (expired), Mohammad Maqbool Unit Holders and private person Abdul Quyoom Lone (expired) in the Court of Special Judge Anti Corruption, Baramulla. The Case was registered on the outcome of the verification conducted by the then Vigilance Organization Kashmir into the allegations pertaining to misappropriation of transport subsidy by the officials of District Industrial Centre Kupwara in league with the Small Scale Industries (SSI) unit holders. Pursuant to the conspiracy that was hatched the DIC officials had issued factually incorrect verification and consumption certificates to facilitate the fraudulent withdrawal of transport subsidy by the unit holders amounting to lakhs of rupees.

Hope SC stays Article 370 revocation: Mehbooba

Srinagar, April 26 : A day after the Supreme Court agreed to hear the pleas challenging the Centre's decision to abrogate Jammu and Kashmir's special status, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti hopes the apex court "stays not only revocation of Article 370 but also reverses all the illegal laws brought in". The now abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir. "A state robbed of its legal and constitutional special status was cleaved into two and disempowered.

2 JeM hybrid militants arrested in north Kashmir

Srinagar, April 26 : Two hybrid militants of Jaish-e-Mohammad have been arrested in north Kashmir on Tuesday morning, police said. They said the two were arrested by joint forces in the Pattan area of Baramulla and were planning to target panchayat members and non locals. "Based on specific reliable inputs regarding movement of two terrorists in a vehicle towards Srinagar, Mobile vehicle check posts of (Army's) 29 RR, JKP and SSB were placed at various spots along the national highway and surrounding bylanes. A speeding Tavera in a suspicious manner was signaled to stop. The vehicle stopped abruptly and two driver & co-driver jumped off the vehicle and fled towards nearby wooded orchard area. Joint parties gave chase to the two and the duo were nabbed," a statement by Baramulla police said. The two were identified as Aqib Mohd Mir and Danish Ahmad Dar, both residents of Sopore. " The seizure and search of the vehicle led to the recovery of incriminating materials including two Chinese pistols, 2 pistol magazines, ammunition 10 rounds and two Chinese grenades.
