Eid prayers passed off peacefully across Kashmir

Srinagar, May 3 : Eid prayers passed off peacefully across Kashmir, officials said. The largest Eid gathering in Kashmir was held at Hazratbal shrine where thousands of people offered prayers. Former chief ministers Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah also offered prayers at the shrine. Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramazan, is celebrated for two days in the Valley. Male members of the family visit houses of all their friends and relatives for two days on the occasion of Eid. No Eid congregational prayers were allowed at Jamia Masjid and Eidgah in old Srinagar due to a face-off between the authorities and the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid, the managing body of the historic mosque.

Joint security review meeting of ‘Amarnath Yatra’ held

Srinagar, April 22 : Senior security officials on Friday directed all the officers to maintain the highest-level of alertness and ensure proper access control at transit and base camps for the upcoming Shri Amarnath ji Yatra police said. A police spokesman said a joint security review meeting was held in Kashmir in which threadbare discussions were made regarding overall security arrangements to be adopted for Yatra. The meeting was held at 3 Sector Manasbal in Ganderbal district which was attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Central Kashmir Sujit Kumar, Commander 3 Sector Brigadier Atul Rajput, DIG CRPF North Randeep Kr. Rana, senior police, Army and CRPF officials. "During the meeting, a detailed security review of all locations enroute including transit camps, base camps at Baltal and Domail were taken," the spokesman said. Senior officers also reviewed traffic management for smooth passage of Yatra convoys and availability of parking places.

Four JKAS officers transferred, given additional charge

Srinagar, Oct 5 : Four Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officers were transferred and given additional charge of posts in the Union Territory, an official said. He said Nargis Suraiya, JKAS, Joint Director, Handlooms, Kashmir, has been transferred and posted as Chief Executive Officer, Tourism Development Authority, Doodhpathri, relieving Dr Nasir Ahmad Lone, JKAS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Budgam of the additional charge of the post.

Srinagar, Apr 25 (UNI) The weather remained pleasant for the second successive day on Sunday as bright sunshine greeted people in the summer capital, Srinagar, and other parts of Kashmir valley, where the mercury during the night dipped and settled several degrees below normal. ACB arrests two J&K police personnel in bribe case in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 28 (UNI) The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Station House Officer (SHO) and Head Constable (HC) for demanding and accepting a bribe in the central Kashmir district of Badgam on Tuesday, a spokesman for the ACB said in a statement. He said that a complaint was received that by Police Station(PS) ACB, Srinagar, that SHO Gowhar Gul and HC Nazir Ahmad Bhat of police station Khag in Badgam district were demanding bribe Rs 4000 for settlement of a complaint lodged by him.
