NEW DELHI, July 12, 2025—Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the death of four persons following the collapse of a two-and-a-half-storey building in Janata Mazdoor Colony, Seelampur and the death of one person in the collapse of a dilapidated building in Azad Market due to a tunnel boring by the Delhi, and demanded that compensation should be paid to the victims family forthwith. He said that a case should be registered against those responsible for the death of 5 people and a high-level investigation should be held along with taking action against the guilty. He said that after the tragic accident Chief Minister Rekha Gupta not reaching the site of the incident shows her sensitivity towards the people of Delhi.
Shri Devender Yadav demanded that the Delhi Government should announce a compensation of Rs 10 lakh each to the families of those who died in Seelampur and Rs 2 lakh each to the injured. He said that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is not concerned about the poor people of Delhi, but is only engaged in her publicity. He said that action has not been taken against those responsible for the death of 11 people when a four-storey building collapsed in Mustafabad on April 19.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the negligence and neglect of the present BJP’s triple engine government and the corruption-ridden government of the previous Aam Aadmi Party are fully responsible for the collapse of houses in the congested colonies of Delhi. He said that if a 15-year-old building collapses like a pack of cards, one can imagine how strong the ‘lanterns’ were under the influence of the ‘lantern mafia’. He said that the BJP and AAP have played with the lives of people by colluding with builders. He said that MCD identifies dangerous buildings but does not demolish them until they are bribed He said that there are dangerous buildings in the Paharganj and Chandni Chowk areas as well as in the whole of Delhi but no action is taken on them.
Shri Devender Yadav said that in the past 11 years, there has been rampant unauthorised constructions in Seelampur and Mustafabad under the patronage of AAP and BJP MLAs, and at present there is no control over the corruption taking place under the dictatorial rule of BJP at the Centre as well as in Delhi Government and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
Shri Devender Yadav said that every year the authorities identify dangerous buildings but nothing happens, and this is not the first time that a building has collapsed. In January, a five-storey under-construction building collapsed in Burari, killing five people and injuring 12, while in April, a four-storey building collapsed in Mustafabad, killing 11 people. In the last 12 years, a large number of unauthorised constructions have taken place under the patronage of the BJP and AAP MLAs and councillors.
