Nagaland ex-MLA Lungbe Meru passes away

Kohima, Nov 28 (UNI) Former Legislator of Nagaland Lungbe Meru (Lunghinggwangbe Meru ) from Peren Assembly Constituency under Peren district passed away at Dimapur. He was 86 and survived by his wife and six children. Lungbe who was born on February 2, 1934 was elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as member of Democratic Party of Nagaland in 1964. During his political career, Lungbe worked tirelessly for the development of Nagaland at its nascent stage.
Apart of politics, lLungbe was also actively involved in church activities and served as head deacon besides a member committee involved with translation of the Bible into Zeme dialect.
Further, Lungbe played a pivotal role in establishing the Zeme Baptist Church Dimapur.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has expressed pain on learning of the passing away of Lungbe Meru former MLA of Peren Assembly Constituency at Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR) Dimapur on Friday. In his condolence message to the bereaved family, Rio said Lungbe served as CO at Peren before joining politics and became the first elected MLA from 7 Peren Assembly Constituency.
He said late Lungbe had genuine concern for the Naga political issue when he along with 11 other MLAs of Democratic Party of Nagaland (DPN) resigned from the house for solution to the issue.
Rio conveyed deep condolences along with his wife to the bereaved family and prayed that God give them strength to overcome their grief.

Nagaland Legislative Assembly Speaker Sharingain Longkumer, in his condolence message expressed sadness at the passing away of Lungbe Meru. He conveyed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family.
Nagaland Leader of Opposition T R Zeliang has expressed deep pain and sorrow over the demise of Lunghinggwangbe Meru, and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members. In a condolence message, Zeliang said Meru grew up to be a visionary Leader whose contribution to the welfare of the Zeliang community would ever be remembered.

He said Meru was the first MLA from Peren Assembly Constituency and later resigned at the behest of underground outfit Naga National Council (NNC) in 1964. Zeliang pray that God grant peace and solace to all the bereaved family members and all his near and dear ones during this time of grief and sorrow.
President of Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland, Joshua Sumi also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved family at the demise of Lungbe Meru . Besides being elected to the Assembly, Sumi said Lungbe also served as member of Naga Council Dimapur.

On behalf of the Ex-PAN, Sumi conveyed sincere condolences and also prayed that god give solace and comfort at their moment of grief and eternal peace to the departed soul.
