NEW DELHI, –Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that the corruption in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi under the BJP rule has been thoroughly exposed after the CBI registered an FIR against a Municipal Corporation of Delhi beldar Sunil from the Najafgarh Zone after he was caught red-handed by the CBI while accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh for the construction of a house in Ward 133 of Mahipalpur. He said that if the corporation officials in connivance with the BJP Councillors were extorting money from the poor people for constructing residential houses, then it was a matter of serious concern that how much bribe the MCD officials would be collecting from those running commercial buildings and other construction activities.
Shri Devender Yadav said that former Bijwasan MLA Col. Devender Sehrawat has exposed the bribery case of the MCD official and the Congress was also in possession of other documents which will be disclosed later. He said that the CBI registered the FIR on the complainant one Ranjit Kumar, who was constructing a house in Mahipalpur. Shri Devemder Yadav said that this is just one of the many cases of corruption in the MCD, as we have more than 50 such complaints of how large-scale corruption was happening in the corporation under the BJP rule. He said that the Congress has been demanding a CBI probe in the case.
Shri Devender Yadav said that now the corporation authorities are making illegal collection from shopkeepers, godowns, stores for trade licenses in Delhi. He said that businesses that are already running are being forcibly charged monthly bribes for providing license. He asked why the corporation councillors, MLAs and MPs were silent on the corruption going on openly on the new receipt system for obtaining trade licenses, on the weekly collection from shopkeepers and godowns etc. “Is this order for one district only for select shops,” he asked. He said the rampant extortion has proved that the BJP-ruled Municipal Corporation of Delhi has become a den of corruption.
Shri Devender Yadav said that the Congress party will campaign against corruption for a bribe free and fair administration in Delhi. He said that Congress will not tolerate loot by the municipal authorities, including Najafgarh, and until the interests of the traders are reviewed, the license notice should be cancelled. He said that Congress is preparing to file a public interest petition against the license recovery racket and will raise a united voice against the illegal recovery from poor house builders and shopkeepers, godown owners, traders etc
