NEW DELHI, Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav has expressed serious concern over the steep rise in criminal activities in the national capital, accusing the BJP-led governments at both the Centre and in Delhi of complete failure in maintaining law and order.
Yadav said the people of Delhi are gripped by fear, no longer feeling safe even within their homes. He blamed the “Triple Engine” BJP regime for prioritizing personal comforts—like upgrading ministerial residences—while neglecting public safety. He termed the current state of affairs as one of “complete administrative breakdown.”
Highlighting data from January to June 2025, Yadav noted that 1,18,822 cases have already been reported under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). On average, 5 rapes, 2 murders, 18 snatching incidents, 3 dacoities, and multiple kidnappings are being recorded each day. Drug-related crimes, cyber offences, and vehicle thefts have also seen sharp rises. He added that domestic violence and attacks on the elderly are becoming disturbingly frequent.
Despite several meetings between the Union Home Minister, the LG, and the Delhi Police Commissioner, there has been no visible improvement, Yadav said. He also criticized the administration’s inability to trace recent bomb threats emailed to Delhi schools, calling it a serious lapse in cyber security and emergency response.
Yadav emphasized that the growing crime is a direct consequence of rising unemployment, pushing youth towards unlawful means for survival. He held both the former Aam Aadmi Party government and the current BJP regimes accountable for the situation, stating that “misgovernance has made crime a shortcut to survival in Delhi.”
