New Delhi, July 29, 2025:
Delhi Congress president Devender Yadav has called upon Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take urgent action in recovering more than ₹63,000 crore owed to the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) by multiple government departments and agencies. In a letter dated July 29, Yadav emphasized the need for this recovery to revive the financial health of the DJB and improve water supply in the capital.
Yadav alleged that the DJB has been pushed into a severe financial crisis, primarily due to corruption and poor governance during the Aam Aadmi Party’s tenure. Despite mounting losses, the board continues to harass honest citizens with inflated bills while large government bodies remain major defaulters.
Among the top non-paying entities, he highlighted the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (₹26,147 crore), Indian Railways (₹21,530.5 crore), Delhi Police (₹6,097 crore), and several other departments from both Delhi and Central Governments. According to Yadav, the Delhi Government owes ₹33,295.8 crore, while Central Government departments owe ₹29,723.4 crore—totaling ₹63,019 crore.
Yadav contrasted the current crisis with the Congress era, when the DJB operated efficiently and profitably, implementing infrastructure upgrades across the city, including underserved areas. He also accused the AAP Government of empowering tanker mafias and turning the water distribution system into a profit machine for private players.
He further criticized the BJP-led administration in Delhi for failing to recover the dues, despite earlier promises of reform. He claimed that no significant steps had been taken by the current leadership to resolve the water crisis or restore accountability in the DJB.
Calling the situation a betrayal of Delhi’s taxpayers, Yadav demanded that the Home Minister immediately direct the Delhi Government and all concerned departments to clear their dues. He stressed that public funds should be used for development and essential services, not lost to bureaucratic neglect and political mismanagement.
