NEW DELHI, August 6, 2025 – Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav slammed the BJP’s “Triple Engine” government for its failure to control rising prices, stating that the ongoing inflation is crushing daily wage workers, the poor, and middle-class families in the Capital. He said people are now struggling to buy even the most basic household essentials.
Yadav pointed out that over the last decade, everyday commodities — especially vegetables and cooking oil — have seen alarming price hikes. Tomatoes, in particular, have now crossed ₹100 per kg, turning into a luxury for common households. He warned that if black-marketing and hoarding are not curbed immediately, tomato prices could surge to ₹120-130 per kg soon.
He criticized the government’s justification that heavy rains are responsible for the vegetable price rise. “If monsoon causes a spike every year, why is there no preventive action or crackdown on hoarders?” he questioned. He accused the BJP of shielding hoarders and traders who form a major chunk of their vote base, leaving ordinary citizens to suffer the consequences.
Referring to Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Yadav said that ever since taking office, she has focused more on publicity than addressing people’s concerns. He claimed the government has taken no concrete steps to bring vegetable prices under control. Even government-run Mother Dairy outlets are charging nearly ₹47 for onions and ₹42 for potatoes. Meanwhile, tomatoes, which were ₹50 per kg in early June, have doubled in price within a week.
