NEW DELHI, July -Reacting to the media reports on the Privileges Committee notice of the Delhi Assembly issued to the Delhi Congress, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Devender Yadav said that the media reports of the notice are a joint conspiracy of the BJP and the AAP, as it is an attempt to suppress the voice of the people.
Shri Devender Yadav said that when the Congress raised its voice on behalf of the people against the grand royal constructions like ‘Shauchmahal’ worth ₹99 lakh, which is being built at a total cost of Rs. 2.35 crore in Delhi, and the demolition of the slum clusters of poor migrant people by the BJP Government, we came out on the streets as the voice of the poor people, then reports of the Privileges Committee of the Delhi Assembly issuing notices appear, which is a sheer political vendetta.
“Is it not ironical that on the one hand, bulldozers are being run on slums, trees are being cut mercilessly and on the other hand, royal palaces are being built for BJP leaders and MLAs with the tax payers’ money, and public funds are also being misused to buy expensive mobiles for MLAs.Isn’t this a political issue?”, he asked.
Referring to the news reports of the notice, Shri Devender Yadav said that according to media reports, the notice has been sent by the Privileges Committee of the Delhi Assembly, which has a total of 9 MLAs from AAP and BJP.
“We want to make it clear that this so-called notice is an attempt to suppress our voice. How public money is being wasted in royal luxury, Congress exposed it, and now action is being taken against the same. If building a ‘Shauchmahal for Rs 99 lakh is not a crime, how can speaking against it be a crime?”, he wondered.
Shri Devender Yadav said that if need be, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee would soon go to the people with a prototype of “Shauchmahal” and expose the “royal high-handedness” of the BJP leaders. He said that if speaking the truth is a sin, then Congress will commit it again and again, whatever may be the reaction of the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, who collude to suppress the voice of reason.
“If the news is confirmed, not only before the Assembly Committee but Congress will also hit the streets to tell the people about the truth,” he said. “This is not just a legal battle, but a moral and democratic battle”, Shri Devender Yadav pointed out.
“When the notice has been issued by the Speaker, how did it get passed on to the media instead of meeting us first? Is it not a violation of the dignity of the Assembly and the office of the Speaker itself?”, asked Shri Devender Yadav.
According to sources, if the media reports are true, then the Delhi Congress chief will demand that the Assembly Speaker should immediately recuse himself from hearing the matter as the committee of the Assembly is nominated by the Speaker, so how can he get the allegations against him investigated. And you can file a complaint. At the same time, there may be a demand to ensure “natural justice” in the entire process, because without fairness and transparency, no proceeding can be considered just.
“The Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee will remain the voice of the people and will continue to oppose the corruption, luxury and anti-democratic work being done by the alliance of power – BJP and AAP – on every platform,” Shri Yadav concluded. He said that while the Aam Aadmi Party built the Sheesh Mahal on one side, the BJP built the toilet at public’s expense on the other side.
Shri Devender Yadav said that all the statements made by him in the past were based on facts and documents available on the official website of the Delhi Government and not against the Hon’ble Speaker. He said that it was the result of the questions raised by the Congress party and the facts brought before the public that the tender of Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta’s “Phool Kumari Niwas” had to be cancelled.
