Bangladesh appoint Ashwell Prince as full-time batting consultant

Dhaka, Aug 13 : Former South Africa batsman Ashwell Prince will take over as Bangladesh’s batting consultant till the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia, the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed.
The South African worked with Bangladesh in a similar capacity during their successful tour of Zimbabwe in July but he was not available for Bangladesh’s 4-1 T20I home series victory against Australia.

‘Prince, who has been with the Bangladesh side in the same role in the series against Zimbabwe in July this year, has reached an agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to work until the end of Bangladesh’s campaign in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in 2022,’ the BCB said in a statement on late Thursday.

The 44-year-old will leave his position as the head coach of South African domestic side Western Province to take over the role with Bangladesh.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience with the Bangladesh national team during what was obviously a very successful tour for the team in Zimbabwe. The level of cricket played by both Bangladesh and Zimbabwe was of a really high standard,’ Prince said.

The former cricketer added that the quality and unity in the Bangladesh camp meant their first-ever series victory against Australia wasn’t a surprise to him.

“I don’t think the results (against Australia) came as a surprise to anyone in the Bangladesh camp. When I was subsequently offered the chance to join the team on a full-time basis, it was a no-brainer,’
