PM Modi congratulates Macron on re-election

New Delhi, April 25 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated French President Emmanuel Macron on his re-election. “Congratulations to my friend Emmanuel Macron on being re-elected as the President of France! I look forward to continue working together to deepen the India-France Strategic Partnership,” Modi tweeted. Macron on Sunday won in the second round of the presidential election with 18,779,641 votes or 58.55 per cent of the votes, while his rival, far-right presidential candidate, leader of the National Rally Party Marine Le Pen got 13,297,760 votes, or 41.46 per cent. US President Joe Biden congratulated his French counterpart and expressed readiness for further cooperation. “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election. France is our oldest ally and a key partner in addressing global challenges. I look forward to our continued close cooperation — including on supporting Ukraine, defending democracy, and countering climate change,” Biden tweeted. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison wished Macron success in leadership in Europe, that is the middle of an ongoing war by Russia on Ukraine. “Congratulations Emmanuel Macron on your re-election as President. Another great expression of liberal democracy in action in uncertain times. We wish you & France every success, in particular your leadership in Europe and as an important partner to Australia in the Indo-Pacific,” Morrison said. Congratulating Macron, Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said: I would like to work closely with President Macron in a wide range of fields, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region. “Congratulations, Emmanuel Macron. Looking forward to continuing our work together on the issues that matter most to people in Canada and France,” Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said. “From defending democracy, to fighting climate change, to creating good jobs and economic growth for the middle class,” Trudeau added. Calling France as “closest and most important” ally, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: “Congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on your re-election as President of France. France is one of our closest and most important allies. I look forward to continuing to work together on the issues which matter most to our two countries and to the world.” “My congratulations to Emmanuel Macron on his re-election as President of the French Republic. I look forward to continuing and deepening our cooperation in Europe for climate, progress, and peace,” said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store. Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko tweeted: “Great relief with Emmanuel Macron winning the French presidency. Europe can breathe out… Late Sunday, following the results, Macron tweeted: “After 5 years of transformations, happy and difficult times, exceptional crises too, I want to thank the French men and women who have placed their trust in me to preside over our Republic for the next 5 years.”
