SL MPs ask President to quit

Colombo, July 9 : A group of government MPs on Saturday called on Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to immediately resign, shortly after thousands of protesters stormed the President’s House demanding that he quit for failing to end the country’s worst economic crisis.

In an open letter addressed to the President, 16 Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MPs asked him to provide an opportunity “for a mature leader without allegations of corruption” to take over the reins of the government, news reports said.

The MPs who made the appeal include Dulles Alahapperuma, Channa Jayasumana and Nalaka Godahewa.
