Rohtang tunnel all weather link to Ladhak:CII Northern Region Chairman

Chandigarh, Oct 3 (UNI) CII Northern Region Chairman Nikhil Sawhney on Saturday said the world’s highest altitude and longest highway tunnel, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a strategically important all-weather tunnel, which would not only reduce the distance between Manali and Leh by 46 km but would also provide all weather connectivity to the region of Ladakh and far off areas in Himachal which otherwise remained disconnected for four months.

Stating this, in a statement here, Mr Sawhney said the tunnel would be of great significance to the locals as it would empower a swift geographical connectivity as well as strategic movements.

“This is an achievement for our country considering the very challenging conditions of the construction site and weather,” he added.

CII has been committed towards the development of UT of Ladakh and will continue to play its catalytic role to bring in investment in the region.

“CII believes that the tunnel would bring in economic benefits as it would further boost tourism in the region. The tunnel, most importantly, would enable an incessant supply and movement of goods,” he said.

“The connectivity offered by the tunnel ushers an opportunity for growth and business. This tunnel is the culmination of dreams and aspirations of people of Ladakh and vision of our former Prime Minister late Atal Behari Vajpayee and we thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for fullfilling their dream despite numerous challenges,” he added.
