54 more killed in Pakistan floods

Islamabad, Sep 14 : At least 54 people were killed and six others injured in heavy monsoon rain-triggered flash floods in the last 24 hours in Pakistan, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said.

Islamabad, July 27 : The Pakistani rupee continued to slide against the dollar on Wednesday, hitting another low of Rs236 in the interbank market. According to the Forex Association of Pakistan (FAP), the local currency fell Rs3.77 to Rs236.70 from Tuesday’s close of Rs232.93 at 11:30am. FAP chairman Malik Bostan highlighted that there was a need to increase dollar inflows as it would stabilise the rupee.

Pakistan reports 592 Covid cases, 7 deaths

Islamabad, July 20 (UNI/Xinhua) Pakistan reported 592 new Covid-19 cases and seven more deaths during the last 24 hours, the country's ministry of health said on Wednesday. The tally of infected people increased to 1,547,795 with the new cases, according to the data released by the ministry.

LHC orders Guv to complete oath-taking process of Hamza Sharif

Islamabad, April 27 : The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday instructed Punjab Governor Omer Sarfaraz Cheema to complete the oath taking process of Chief Minister-elect Hamza Shehbaz, either himself or through a nominee, "on or before" April 28 Friday, Dawn reported. The decision was announced in an open court at 10am on a petition filed by Hamza seeking the court's direction to the Senate chairman to administer him the oath of office. In a three-page verdict, LHC Chief Justice Ameer Bhatti ruled that all provisions of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973, suggested prompt formation of governments, both federal and provincial.

Resignation only honourable way out for dissident lawmakers: SC judge

Islamabad, April 22 : Pakistan's Supreme Court Justice Munib Akhtar, who is part of a five-member bench hearing a presidential reference seeking the SC's interpretation of Article 63-A of the Constitution, said on Friday that the only "honourable way out for dissident lawmakers is that they should resign and go home", Dawn reported. Justice Akhtar was responding to PML-N counsel's argument that disloyalty to the party was different from disloyalty to the state. Earlies, Justice Akhtar had likened defection in parliamentary democracy to the devastation wrought by cancer on a human body.

Pakistan confirms 4,786 new COVID-19 cases

Islamabad, Aug 14 (UNI/Xinhua) Pakistan confirmed 4,786 new COVID-19 cases over the last 24 hours, the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) said on Saturday, as the country's overall confirmed cases rising to 1,094,699, including 983,754 recoveries. The disease killed 73 people over the last 24 hours, increasing the overall death toll to 24,339, the NCOC said, and 4,729 are in critical condition.
