COVID-19: Toll in Bengal rises to 4,359, cases touch 2,25,137

Kolkata, Sep 21 (UNI) The COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 4,359 with the death of 61 persons
on Sunday, while the tally touched 2,25,137 with 3,177 new confirmed cases.
According to the latest State Government Health bulletin, the active cases accounted for
24,806, while the number of discharged cases stood at 1,95,972.
The percentage of discharged rose to 87.05 per cent.
The bulletin said the total number of samples tested stood at 27,90,518 with 45,656 tested till yesterday.
While the city recorded the highest number of 1581 deaths so far, surrounding districts of
North 24 Parganas and Howrah came second and third respectively with 981 and 497 fatalities.
South 24 Parganas accounted for 279 deaths, the toll in Hooghly stood at 190, Darjeeling 97, Paschim and Purba Midnapore 93 and 110 respectively, Malda 52, Murshidabad 59, Nadia 72,
Paschim Bardhaman 50, Purba Bardhaman 40, Jalpaiguri 44, Uttar Dinajpur 31, Dakshin
Dinajpur 31, Birbhum 23, Alipurduar 38, Kalimpong 4, Cooch Behar 29, Purulia 15, Jhargram 2
and Bankura 38.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Police Intelligence chief Muralidhar Sharma was infected by Corona.
After the Kolkata Police Commissioner, this time Sharma tested positive.
On Saturday, the intelligence chief’s Corona report came positive.
Sources said he is currently at home isolation with mild symptoms.
