Blood Donation Camp Organized at SKUAST-Jammu

In connection with National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2021, a blood donation camp was organized at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu.
It was organized by Department of Transfusion Medicine, Government Medical College, Jammu with the help of SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology, J&K chapter, Jammu and Kashmir (UT) AIDS Prevention and Control Society, National Service Scheme. Professor J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu was chief guest and Dr. Shashi Sudhan, Principal, GMC, Jammu was guest of honour on the
occasion. The objective of the programme was to motivate people to donate blood voluntarily so as to save precious life of needy patients.

The camp was inaugurated by Professor J.P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the university. He exhorted youngsters to come forward and donate blood. He said Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohaematology, J&K Chapter; Jammu and Kashmir (UT) in collaboration with Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-Jammu should organize similar blood donation camps in rural areas. Dr. Shashi Sudhan, Principal, GMC, Jammu in her address said that blood
donation leads to universal brotherhood. She expressed her happiness that not only students but even faculty members showed enthusiasm to make this mega event a success.
Around 49 volunteers donated blood at the camp. A total of 49 unit of blood was collected in the end of the day. At the blood camp, the donations were taken keeping in mind the protocol set by the government during COVID-19 pandemic. First, the registration of the donor was done and then the said person goes under a thorough medical screening following he is allowed to make the donation. The staffers on duty also followed the legitimate protocol.
All followed social distancing norms strictly. All those who were attending the donors were wearing proper gear, including masks and gloves. Earlier, programme started by lightening the traditional lamp followed by welcome address by Dr. Rajesh Katoch, Dean Student Welfare. Dr. T.R. Raina, Former Prof. and Head, GMC, Jammu delivered motivational lecture on ‘Benefits of blood donation’. All the statutory officers, teaching and non-teaching staff and students of the University attended the function. All the necessary arrangement for the organization of blood donation camp was made by Dr. Anil Kumar Gupta and Dr. Sushma Gupta.The programme was coordinated by Dr. Kawardeep Kour, Dr. Akhil Gupta, Dr. Subash Kashyap, Dr. Nomita
Laishram, Dr. Ankur Rastogi and Dr. Arvinder Singh. Vote of thanks was extended by Dr. Meena Sidhu, Prof. and Head, Department of Blood Transfusion Medicine, GMC, Jammu.
