EC approaches SC against Madhya Pradesh HC order restricting physical political rallies

New Delhi, Oct 23 (UNI) The Election Commission has approached the Supreme Court challenging a Madhya Pradesh High Court order negating the EC guidelines allowing a restricted number of physical political gathering for campaigning in the Assembly by-elections arising with the resignations of Congress MLAs.

The HC’s Gwalior bench restrained political parties from holding physical gatherings unless they got a certification from district magistrates and the EC that virtual election campaign was not possible.

The EC in its petition before the Supreme Court on Thursday sought appropriate directions against Madhya Pradesh HC order and said, the restrictions on physical political rallies be considered into the case.
