Goa CM welcomes approval of DRIP Phase II, III by Centre

Panaji, Nov 3 (UNI) Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has welecomed the approval of Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (#DRIP) Phase II and Phase III by the Centre, and expressed hope that the new scheme would bring long lasting dam safety culture in India.

In a tweet, he said,’Government of Goa welcomes the approval of the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (#DRIP) Phase II and Phase III, approved by Government of India today with 19 States on board.’

‘Hope this new Scheme would bring long lasting dam safety culture in India as well as Goa would be benefitted a lot in terms of safety, capacity building and better health of our water asset. Goa is a partner in this new DRIP Phase II & Phase III with rehabilitation provision for 2 dams at budget outlay of ₹ 58 Cr. It is a timely step by Govt of India to assist concerned States to ensure longer life of these water asset,’ he said.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on October 29, 2020, had approved the Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP) Phase II and Phase III to improve the safety and operational performance of selected dams across the whole country, along with institutional strengthening with system wide management approach.

The scheme envisaged comprehensive rehabilitation of 736 existing dams located across the country in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu Telangana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and West Bengal.
