Hathras rape case: Massive protest in UP; SP workers burn effigy near CM residence

Lucknow, Sep 30(UNI) Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh have launched a statewide protests even as the Yogi Adityanath government announced a SIT probe and trial by a fast track court. In Lucknow, the Samajwadi Party and Congress along with Aam Admi Party (AAP) led the protest march in different parts of the state capital.

A major security threat was witnessed when some SP workers burnt the effigy of the chief minister near the CM residence in which a police sub-inspector was injured. Some SP workers were arrested for entering the high security zone.

In another incident, police used mild force on the Congress workers when they were bringing out a march up to the CM residence from the VVIP guest house. The Congress march led by state president Ajay Kumar Lallu was stopped on the gate of the guest house and the workers had scuffle with the security personnel before they were arrested.

Meanwhile, a report from Hathras said that the Valmiki samaj, the community of the victim girl held a massive protest at the Ramleela ground in the city demanding capital punishment for the criminals involved in the crime.



Stone pelting was witnessed by the protesters while police had to lob tear gas shells to control the crowd.

Due to the protest, all the markets in Hathras are closed for the second day today while protesters blocked the Agra-Bareilly highway for several hours.

On the other hand Police arrested Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar in Tappal in Aligarh when he was going to Hathras to meet the family members of the girl.
