In the presence of thousands of drum-beating Congress workers, newly-appointed Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely takes charge.

NEW DELHI, September 14, 2023—Newly-appointed president of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely took charge today in the presence of thousands of Congress workers and leaders at the DPCC office lawns, Rajiv Bhawan, 2 Rouse Avenue, New Delhi. Outgoing DPCC president Ch. Anil Kumar, while handing over charge to Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely, thanked the Congress workers for their co-operation and hard-work during a challenging time of the party.

Anil Kumar, CWC members Shri Manish Chatrath and Shri Devender Yadav, ex-MPs Smt. Krishna Tirath, Shri Sandeep Dikshit and Shri Parvesh Hashmi, AICC SC Department chairman Shri Rajesh Lilothia, former Delhi Ministers Shri Haroon Yusuf, Shri Rajkumar Chauhan, ex-MLA Jaikishan and spokesperson Ragini Nayak also addressed the gathering. Ex-MPs Shri Ramesh Kumar and Dr Udit Raj, CWC member and spokesperson Shri Pavan Khera, Ex MLA Shri Mukesh Sharma and Alka Lamba, former Delhi Ministers Dr Narendra Nath, Shri Mangat Ram Singhal, Shri Ramakant Goswami, Prof. Kiran Walia,  AICC secretaries Shri Shiv Bhatia, Amrita Dhawan and Abhishek Dutt, Amit Malik, Parvinder Sharma, ex-MLAs, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress, NSUI and Sewa Dal, and office-bearers of Cells and Departments were also present.  Former Delhi Minister Shri Rajkumar Chauhan thanked the Congress workers and leaders who came from all parts of Delhi to attend the function. Former Youth Congress president Shri Bhram Yadav moderated the programme. The stage arrangement was organised by former Leader of the House in the MCD Shri Jitender Kumar Kochar and PCC delegate Jaikaran Choudhary.

Former DPCC president Shri Subhash Chopra thanked Smt. Sonia Gandhi, Congress president Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, Shri Rahul Gandhi, Smt. Priyanka Gandhi, Shri K.C.Venugopal, Shri Deepak Babaria and the party High Command for the appointment of Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely as the Delhi Congress president. He also introduced a resolution, which was passed unanimously.

Since 10 a.m, the New Delhi area was full of Congress workers, who travelled from all across Delhi, with the beating of drums, and holding flags in their hands, to attend Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely’s formal takeover function at Rajiv Bhawan. From the ITO crossing to Minto Road and Ramlila Maidan, roads were full of vehicles in which Congress workers and leaders, wearing the Congress cap, came to attend Shri Lovely’s takeover ceremony. A large number of Congress workers also came by metro trains. Women, youth and people from the minority communities also attended the function in large numbers.

Many happy Congress workers said that this was not a public meeting, but a “Congress workers’ mela” as they were all elated at the return of Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely as the Delhi Congress president, which, they felt, will give a new impetus to the party, and boost enthusiasm among the Congress workers and the common people, to uplift the party in Delhi, and fight for the  rights of the people. Enthusiastic Congress workers raised slogans such as “Rahul Gandhi Zindabad, Priyanka Gandhi Zindabad, Arvinder Singh Lovely Zindabad” etc. The entire New Delhi area was full of hoardings and posters of Shri Lovely.

Shri Deepak Babaria said that Congress was never in a weak position in Delhi. He said that the enthusiasm of the Congress workers, and the presence of thousands of them, showed that the Congress High Command has taken the right decision, and the party will bounce back in the  Capital with great vigor,  to serve the people with dedication and determination. He said that the Congress Government, during its 15-year-rule, had carried out unprecedented development works in Delhi, and people still recall those good  days, as Congress had left behind a world class city in every respect. He  appealed to the Congress workers to participate in all the programmes of the party with vigor and enthusiasm, to bring the party to its pre-eminent position.

Shri Ajay Maken, addressing the Congress workers, said that Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely, who has a great connect with the party workers, will definitely do a very good job to strengthen Congress in Delhi, and the presence of thousands of Congress workers today was a clear indication that the party was in a resurgent mode. Shri Maken said that the people of Delhi now realize their mistake of electing the BJP and the  Aam Aadmi Party to power at the Centre and Delhi, respectively, as these parties have  ruined the country and Delhi. He said that Congress workers should take this matter to the awareness of the common people, as the aim should be to bring back Congress to power, as people were now looking upto the Congress to provide good governance. He said that all Congress workers should join hands and work round the clock to strengthen the party in Delhi.

Shri Jai Prakash Agarwal said that Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely has the extraordinary ability to strengthen the party in Delhi. He appealed to the Congress workers to come out on the streets and fight for the causes of the people, to strengthen the hands of Shri Lovely.

Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely, after taking over charge as the DPCC president, appealed to the Congress workers to not only work on a war-footing to strengthen the party  in all the 70 Assembly constituencies, but also keep a close watch on the problems of the common people, and spare no effort to solve them. He said that Congress workers should hold protests  in their respective areas, if need be, on specific issues affecting the people, and find solutions to such problems. Shri Lovely said that Delhi Congress will wage a relentless battle against the communal forces, and to protect the interest of the people. He said that Congress party accords equal respect to all faiths. He assured the large gathering that Congress’ priority would be to protect secularism and serve the people in every which way possible.

Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely asserted that Congress will forcefully fight against the misrule and corruption of the ruling parties by projecting the Congress stand on crucial issues in unequivocal terms, by taking a definite stand on matters affecting the people. He said that it was the duty and responsibility of every Congress worker to follow the direction of the party High Command. He said that he would strive his very best to fulfil the faith reposed on him by the High Command in this challenging times to strengthen Congress in Delhi with the whole-hearted support and cooperation of the party workers. He assured them that he will work shoulder-to-shoulder with every party worker to consolidate the party, and help it take the high ground.

Chairman of the Communications Department and ex-MLA Shri Anil Bhardwaj said that Shri Arvinder Singh Lovely had offered prayers at the Kalkaji Mandir on the first anniversary of Shri Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra for peace and progress, and had also offered a ‘chaddar’ at the Nizamuddin Dargah. And after offering prayer at the Rakab Ganj Gurudwara, Shri Lovely also prayed at the Church.
