Kisan Sammalen cum Fair under Vice Chancellor to Village (V2V)

Prof. J. P. Sharma, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu today inaugurated Kissan Sammalen cum fair at village Deloi, Bisnah under Vice Chancellor to Village (V2V) programme in its continuation to second year. The programme was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Jammu wherein large number of farmers, farm women, panchs, sarpanchs, DDC and BDC chairman from Deoli, Laswara, Dabar, Sikanderpur, Batyari and adjoining villages participated. On the occasion Prof. Sharma said that focus of University is beyond production through development of strategies and market linkages for increasing the share of farmers in consumers’ rupee. Initiatives such as seed village concept combined with selling points, value addition facilities at the KVKs, and technology support to farmers on market-led production transforming the farming to agribusiness mode benefiting the farmers & youths. Dr Sharma further said that “Farm University and KVKs are front runners in linking farmers with market”. He briefed that an outlet for sale of a proprietary and branded Abdullian Milk Cake under University ‘Chatha’ branding at R.S. Pura Campus has been initiated to provide marketing facilities to a group of families in Abdullian village. He stressed to focus on post harvest management to reduce the losses which are to the tune of 20 per cent to 30 per cent in case of grains and even more for perishable commodities like fruits and vegetables.

The Vice Chancellor stressed on the formation of Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) and invited the farmers to avail the help of KVK and University facilities. SKUAST-J has initiated more than six FPOs till now and it is in the priority of the University. The KVKs have already develop models for registration of commodity based FPOs in several districts of Jammu region. He appreciated the efforts of KVK Jammu for its role in transforming the farming community of Jammu towards adoption of Scientific agriculture.

During the programme, Ex-Director Research Dr Jagpaul Sharma and Director Extension Dr S K Gupta also addressed the farmers and urged them to take full benefits of Agriculture University and visionary approach of the Vice Chancellor to synchronize with path-breaking agricultural reforms and replicate the success stories of innovative farmers. At the outset Dr Punit Choudhary Sr Scientist and Head KVK JAMMU welcomed the dignitaries and farmers in the Sammalen cum fair and also briefed about the objectives of conducting such types of activities in the district for the uplifting the resource poor farmers.

On the occasion of World Soil Day 2021, on-spot soil testing facility with proper recommendations by soil scientists was provided to the farmers. A Farmers Fair was also organised by KVK Jammu wherein exhibition depicting various technologies and instruments related to agriculture, Agricultural start-up and other stalls related to farmer welfare was also laid by SKUAST-Jammu, Department of Agriculture, IFFCO, Aditya Buildmart, Alpha Environmental Systems, Soil testing Lab & other allied departments, entrepreneurs, progressive farmers and private companies.

Resource persons namely Dr Sachin Gupta, Dr Kamlesh Bali, Dr Vikas Abrol, Dr Balbir Dhotra, Dr Pawan Sharma, Dr Vijay Sharma, Dr Prem Kumar, Dr Muneeswar and Dr Amitesh from SKUAST-Jammu and KVK interacted with farmers, sensitized them about different agricultural and allied activities and provided on spot solution of the problems being faced by the farmers of the area. Interaction of farmers with respect to Soil Health was also held with district heads of line departments wherein farmers were given information about the initiatives and developmental schemes of various line.

The programme was organized with the support of Sh Darminder Kumar DDC member Bishnah and Sh Surjit Kumar BDC Chairman Bishnah. Dr Raju, Mr. Satbir Singh, Er. Ashish, Sh Sumeer Raina of KVK Jammu also helped in the smooth conduct of the programme.

During the fair, the progressive farmers were felicitated for their best contribution in the field of agriculture and allied sectors in that area.

A cultural programme focusing on different activities promoted by KVK and SKUAST- Jammu conceptualised by Sargum Musical Group was also presented on the occasion. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr Pawan Sharma.
