NSS Wing of SKUAST-Jammu Organized Drug Abuse Awareness programme

In continuation to celebration of Azadika Amrut Mahotsav, NSS wing of SKUAST-Jammu, under the able guidance of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu Prof. J.P. Sharma and Dean Students Welfare Prof. Rajesh Katoch organised a lecture on Drug Abuse for NSS students of faculty of Agriculture. On the occasion Ms.Pallavi Singh Director of J&K Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses was the invited speaker. On the outset Prof. Katoch welcomed the guest and faculty and threw light on the menace of drug abuse which is becoming a major social evil. Medical Officer Dr Anil Gupta also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the significance of the awareness about drug abuse for the young NSS volunteers of SKUAST-Jammu. Ms.Pallavi Singh gave an impressive power point presentation on the topic, ‘Drug a Closure look and Preventive Measures’ and made the students aware about various drugs and intoxicants. She told that younger generation is prone to this menace now a days. In the presentation she stressed upon the students not to purchase over the counter medicine without prescription because that might lead to drug addiction in long run.

She emphasised that young NSS volunteers can bring a change in the society by making aware the society about drug abuse and drug addiction. A student interaction session was also organised in which students were tested for awareness of various types of drugs and their ill effects. A pledge for ‘No To Drug’ was also taken by students.  The programme was organised by Prof. Rajesh Katoch Dean Students welfare and team of NSS instructors of Faculty of Agriculture and Health Centre.Those present in the programme includes Dr. Akhil Gupta nodal officer DSW FoA, Dr Subhash C Kashyap NSS Coordinator, Dr. Arvinder Singh, Dr.Nomita, Dr.Sushmita, Dr Balbir Dhotra and Dr R. Punia. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr Subhash C Kashyap.
