One Week Training Programme on “Empowering Agriculture Students with Digital Tools and Resources” begins at SKUAST-Jammu

The division of Statistics and Computer Science in collaboration with NAHEP-IDP SKUAST-
Jammu today started One Week Training Programme on “Empowering Agriculture
Students with Digital Tools and Resources under the Chief Patronage of Dr. B. N. Tripathi,
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu. Chief Guest of the function, Prof. S.E.H. Rizvi,
Director Education and Dean, F.B.Sc. SKUAST-Jammu emphasized the transformative potential of statistics and data science in enabling farmers and stakeholders to gain profound insights into crop-related aspects such as yield, disease identification, and remedial measures. He highlighted the role of these technologies in understanding optimal growing conditions and minimizing crop wastage for sustainable agriculture. The Chief Guest commended the training program, expressing confidence that it would instill knowledge and a deeper understanding of statistics and data sciences among the participating students. Prof. Somesh Kumar, the Guest of Honour and Dean of Student Affairs at IIT Kharagpur, provided insights into statistical software, explaining their contemporary use in conjunction with machine learning and data science techniques. Dr. Rajni Jain, another Guest of Honour and Principal Scientist at NIAP, Delhi, briefed students on statistical programming languages, tracing their evolution from the past to their current integration with machine learning and data science for effective data analysis..
Earlier, Dr. Manish Kr Sharma, Prof. & Head, Division of Statistics and Computer Science and
Course Director of the training programme welcomed all the dignitaries and participants of
training course and presented the brief overview of the training programme. He informed that training course covers 25 lectures along with practical which will be delivered by 17 resource persons from different national institutes and internal faculties of SKUAST-Jammu. The inaugural session was attended by heads of divisions, scientists, and students. Programme Co- Coordinators Dr Sunali Mahajan, Dr. Pawan Kumar and Mr. Nishant Jasrotia were also present during the programme. Dr. Anil Bhat, Assistant Professor and Programme Coordinator conducted the proceedings and expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks, acknowledging the valuable contributions of all involved in making the training program a success.
