UP govt : Senior citizens should be wary of COVID in UP,no harm in infected moms feeding new born

Lucknow, Sep 23 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh government has once again cautioned senior citizens on the rising number of Covid 19 infection within their age group in the state and has appealed to the lactating mothers to feed their new born even if they are Corona positive.

On the other hand, chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the health department officials to go for mandatory RTPCR test of Covid in the high risk group during the contact tracing and asked them to repeat RTPCR test for the negative patients of rapid Antigen test, if they have symptoms.

The CM during his routine Team 11 meeting here on Wednesday also asked the surveillance teams to check the oxygen level of the people and if it is under 93 per cent then they should be medically checked.
Meanwhile, state additional chief secretary, health, Amit Mohan Prasad while addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, reiterated that the threat of Covid 19 on the senior citizens still persists as their positivity rate has gone up to 9.11 per cent.

” We had recorded the positivity rate of people over 60 years of age in between 6 to 8 per cent in the past 5 months, but suddenly it has crossed 9 per cent in September, which is concerning,” he said while asking people over 60 years of age to be more cautious.
Similarly, he has appealed to the lactating mothers to feed their breast milk to the new born babies even if they are Corona positive.” A certain guidelines would have to be maintained if they are Corona positive as per the WHO directives but the mothers should feed their breast milk to the babies for their health,” he said.
Talking about the positive rate in the state, the official maintained that the percentage is just less than 0.2 per cent of the total 23 crore population. Among the total 3.70 lakh positive cases in the state, 68.46 per cent are males and rest 31.54 per cent are females.
Among the positive cases so far in UP , 13.45 per cent are in the age group of 0 to 20 years, 48.16 per cent between the age group of 21 to 40 years and 28.88 per cent between the age group of 41 to 60 years.
In UP, the total casualty in Covid was 5299 while over three lakhs have recovered.
