COVID-19 takes Minister Suresh Angadi’s life; India home to 90,000 fatalities

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) The COVID-19 situation in India continues to remain grim as in the past 24 hours, over 1,000 patients, including Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, died of the virus. The 65-year old Lok Sabha MP from Belgaum (Belagavi) constituency in Karnataka is the first sitting Minister whose life has been claimed by the virus. He had tested positive on September 11 and was admitted at All India Institute of Medical Sciences.

Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia hospitalised

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) Delhi deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was on Wednesday admitted to LNJP hospital here. The 48-year-old Aam Aadmi Party leader was on September 14 tested positive for COVID-19. He is the second minister in the Delhi government who has been infected with the coronavirus. Earlier, Health Minister Satyendra Jain was found to be Covid positive. Mr Sisodia also did not attend Delhi Assembly session on September 14 due to being Corona positive.

BRO-made 43 bridges inauguration postponed due to state mourning

New Delhi, Sep 24 (UNI) In the wake of state mourning due to demise of Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, the government on Thursday postponed the inauguration of 43 bridges made by the Border Road Organisations across 7 states and Union Territories. The minister died due to Covid-19 at AIIMS in Delhi on Wednesday. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was to inaugurate them through video conference at 1030 hours. He was also supposed to lay the foundation stone for the Nechiphu Tunnel on road to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh. The 43 bridges spread across 7 states and UTs include 10 bridges in Jammu & Kashmir, 7 in Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh 2, Punjab 4, Uttarakhand and Arunachal Pradesh 8 each, Sikkim 4. India’s push for developing infrastructure in areas bordering China has rattled Beijing as Indian troops have increased patrolling along the Line of Actua Control (LAC). In July, three new bridges made by the BRO in Ladakh's Nimu region became operational. These three bridges are strategically located and would help the Indian Army in moving tanks and other heavy artillery to the eastern Ladakh sector along the LAC.
