Tomar assumes additional charge of Food Processing Industries Ministry

New Delhi, Sep 23 (UNI) Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar on Wednesday joined the office taking over the additional charge as the new Food Processing Industries Minister and joined the ministry’s main office.

Tomar reached the Ministry office at Panchsheel Bhavan on Wednesday where he was received by Minister of State for Food Processing Industries Rameshwar Teli and Secretary of the Ministry Pushpa Subrahmanyam.

Tomar said that the food processing industry is on the path of progress and development, and the ministry contributing towards not only increasing farmer’s profit and making the food products available to the consumers, but, also providing employment to the youth of the country.

The Ministry has a clear goal of attaining these objectives by facilitating and acting as a catalyst to attract quality investments from within India and abroad into this sector with the aim of making food processing a national initiative, Tomar added.

It was last week when former Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal had tendered her resignation, and later after president accepted her resignation, the additional charge was assigned to Narendra Singh Tomar on September 18 in addition to his existing portfolio.

Ms Badal had resigned from the union cabinet over the farmer bills, which her party also claimed to be not in favor of the farmers.

Though, the party continued with their coalition support to the government, however had different opinion as far as the farmer welfare bill was concerned.
