Monsoon likely to reach Kerala on May 31: IMD

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) Indian Meteorological Department has predicted the onset of Southwest monsoon over Kerala on May 31. "This year, the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala is likely to be on 31 May with a model error of ± four days," said IMD in a press release on Friday. Advance of the southwest monsoon over Indian main land is marked by monsoon onset over Kerala and is an important indicator characterizing the transition from hot and dry season to a rainy season. Southwest monsoon sets over Kerala on 1 June with a standard deviation of about seven days.

Monsoon likely to arrive on May 30: Skymet

New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) The southwest monsoon is likely to reach Kerala on May 30 this year, said Skymet, an Indian private weather forecasting agency, on Thursday. "This year the onset of southwest monsoon over Kerala is likely to be on 30 May, 2021 with a model error of +/- two days," Skymet said in a press release, adding that the upcoming monsoon is expected to be ‘healthy normal’ to the tune of 103 per cent of the long period average (LPA) of 880.6 mm. Pre-monsoon showers will be intense and hefty over Kerala', the agency further added.

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 19 (UNI) As Southwest monsoon has been active over Kerala, heavy rainfall ranging from (7-11 cm in next 24 hours) to very heavy rainfall (11-20 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on Saturday. Rain and thundershowers are most likely to occur at most places in the state. Moderate rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kannur and Kasargod districts in the next few hours, Met sources said here this morning. Heavy rainfall (7-11 cm in next 24 hours) is very likely to occur at a few places with very heavy rainfall (11- 20 cm in 24 hours) is very likely to occur at one or two places in Kerala on September 20 and 21. Strong wind with speed reaching 45-55 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Kerala, Karnataka Coasts and over Lakshadweep area. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas. High waves in the range of 3.5-3.8 meters are forecasted till 2330 hrs on September 19 along the coast of Southern Tamil Nadu from Kolachal to Dhanushkodi. Surface current speeds vary between 57 - 102 cm/sec, the sources added.
