Islamic preacher Tariq Jameel tests Covid-19 positive

Islamabad, Dec 14(UNI) Popular television Islamic preacher of Pakistan Maulana Tariq Jameel has been hospitalised after testing positive for coronavirus. Sixty-seven-year-old Jamil, who was hospitalised on Sunday, announced on his Twitter account “I was not feeling well from the last few days and on getting tested for Covid-19, it came positive and was admitted to the hospital on the advice of the doctors.” He requested his well-wishers to pray for him.

Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan also took to Twitter to wish fast recovery to the well-known TV personality, he wrote, “Praying for Maulana Tariq Jamil’s speedy and full recovery from Covid-19.”

Jameel is believed to be close to the country’s military and is one of the most popular Deobandi preachers in the country.

He belongs to the proselitizing Tableeghi Jamaat group of Islam.

It is under Jamil’s influence popular singer Junaid Jamshed, cricketer Inzamam Ul Haq and cricketer Saeed Anwar took to a more austere form of Islam.

After his association with the Jammat Jamshed denounced his career as a musician. Another cricketer Yousuf Youhana converted to Islam in 2005 after being influenced by Saeed Anwar and other Jamatees, after his conversion he was known as Muhammad Yousuf. There were reports in the Pakistani press that Youhana was pressured by hardliners to convert along with his family.
