COVID-19 cases in Marathwada region spike to 8,198 with 93 fatalities


Eight districts of Maharashtra’s Marathwada region recorded the biggest single-day spike of 8,198 novel coronavirus cases and 93 fatalities, health authorities here told media on Wednesday.

Details from all the district headquarters collected by UNI show that out of the eight districts of the region, Nanded was the worst affected, which recorded the highest number of positive cases ie 1,664 cases and 27 deaths, followed by Aurangabad with 1352 new cases and 21 deaths, Parbhani registered 532 new cases and 15 deaths, Beed had 1028 cases and 8 deaths, Hingoli had 252 cases 8 deaths, Latur had 1916 cases and 7 deaths, Jalna had 864 cases 7 deaths, Osmanabad had 590 cases.

Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours total of 60,212 fresh cases of COVID-19 highest spike out across the state, bringing the total number of infections in the state to 35,19,208.

The state also registered 281 more deaths, taking the death toll to 58,526.

Meanwhile, the highest 31,624 patients recovered and were discharged, taking the total number of recoveries to 28,66,097 across the state.

The state’s recovery rate currently stands at 81.44 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.66 per cent.

At present there are 5,93,042 active patients across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, they added.

In view of the rising number of cases, the state government has decided to impose a 15-days curfew in the state from 2000 hours on tonight under the initiative of ‘ break the chain and exempting emergency services.
