AZADI KA AMRUT MAHOTSAV

As part of commemoration of 75 years of India’s Independence Day, “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”, NCC cadets of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Dte under the aegis of DG NCC and Ministry of Defence undertook simultaneous maintenance of statues at ten different locations at Leh, Boniyar, Jammu, Poonch, Doda, RS Pura and Utterbani.on 13 Aug 21.

Statues of the brave soldiers erected at various locations are generally not kept clean and maintained regularly. NCC has come forward to clean statues and set an example for the nation by adopting 2187 statues across the length and breadth of the country.

The process was rolled out with an Mega event at the statue of Capt Tushar Mahajan, Shaurya Chakara, 9 PARA SF, located at Udhampur on 12 Aug 21. The martyr had laid down his life fighting terrorists on 21 Feb 2016 at Pampore. NCC cadets of GCW Udhampur, under the aegis of 2 J&K (G) Bn NCC, cleaned the statue and paid homage to Capt Tushar Mahajan, who has been an inspiration for the youth, being son of the soil.

An elaborate wreath laying ceremony was also held wherein distinguished civil and military dignitaries attended and laid the wreaths. The dignitaries include DC Udhampur, Ms Indu Kanwal Chib, KAS, Mr Rayees Mohd Bhat, IPS, Addl SSP Udhampur, Prof Minu Mahajan Principal, GCW Udhampur, Brig AK Singh, Offg Station Cdr, Udhampur, Brig Satish Kumar, Gp Cdr NCC Gp HQ Jammu and Maj Gen Ranjan Mahajan, SM,ADG, NCC Dte JK&L. who laid the wreaths. The special guests of Honour were Mrs and Mr Dev Raj Gupta, the proud parents of Martyr Capt Tushar Mahajan, SC.

The cadets recited patriotic poems in honour of martyr Capt Tushar Mahajan, Shaurya Chakara, and gave on overview on the importance of the event.

Maj Gen Ranjan Mahajan, ADG, NCC Dte JK&L, Jammu appreciated the efforts of the cadets and urged them to take inspiration from such gallant heroes and always put in their level best to excel in every field.
