Oppn TDP stages walkout from Assembly

Amaravati, Nov 30 (UNI) Principal Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) staged a walkout from the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly here on Monday in protest against the passing of the Panchayat Raj Amendment bill 2020 without a debate in the house.

When Panchayat Raj Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy tabled the bill in the house, the TDP insisted for a comprehensive debate on the bill before its passage.

When the TDP’s demand was overruled and the Assembly passed the bill, the TDP legislators, led by leader of opposition N Chandrababu Naidu, staged a walkout.

Speaking on the bill in the house, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy said that a comprehensive debate was already held in the house earlier on the Amendment bill and later the bill was sent to the Legislative Council for its approval.

Hence, there is no need to hold a debate on the bill once again in the Assembly, the Chief Minister clarified, adding that the tabling of the bill in the house today was formality only. Mr Reddy stated that the PR Amendment bill 2020 was not introduced in the house newly today.

The amendments were brought to the Panchayat Raj Act in order to contain spending of huge money in the elections. “I do not understand what he (Chandrababu Naidu) is saying in the house”, the Chief Minister said.

Responding to the walkout of TDP members, Agriculture minister K Kanna Babu said that the party insisted to allow an adjournment motion on the agriculture sector. When the issue was to be debated in the house, the TDP staged a walkout, he decried.
