Clean India campaign will be organized in Hamirpur from Oct 1st to 31st: DC

Hamirpur (HP), Sep 29 : The nationwide Clean India Campaign of the Ministry of Youth welfare and sports would be organized in the district from October 1st to 31st.
During the campaign under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, several activities will be organized in Hamirpur district, according to Deputy Commissioner, Debasweta Banik.
She chaired a meeting of the district-level committee on Tuesday and finalized the roadmap for the campaign.
She said that the main objective of the Clean India program is to create awareness about cleanliness and environmental protection among the people and ensure maximum participation of common people in it.
The Deputy Commissioner informed that Nehru Yuva Kendra and its related youth clubs will play an important role in various activities to be organized in district Hamirpur during the campaign and four main points will be specially focused in this, these include a collection of plastic waste, conservation and enhancement of water sources, beautification of villages and making useful products from waste.
A target has been fixed to collect at least 25 kg plastic from each village of the district, she added.
The Deputy Commissioner said that in addition to Nehru Yuva Kendra, the participation of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Departments, Health, Forest, Jal Shakti, Education, Women and Child Development, Sports, Public Works, and other departments would also be ensured.
It’s worth mentioning here that the Union Sports Minister, Anurag Thakur had announced the month-long drive via Twitter recently.
The Sports Minister said, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness! As we celebrate #AmitMahotsav of 75 years of Independence, I urge everybody to join Clean India Drive from 1st to 31st October to realize the dream of Plastic Free India.”
While informing about the Clean India Drive, Union Minister Anurag Thakur had said that it was the government’s resolve of creating a plastic-free India, an India of Gandhiji’s dream and as per the vision of Prime Minister Modi in which Swachchta or cleanliness is the topmost priority.
Under the campaign, more than 75 lakh tones of waste, primarily plastic waste, from various parts of the country will be collected and further will be processed in a ‘Waste to Wealth’ model. The month-long Clean India Drive aims to propagate the mantra of “Clean India: Safe India”.
Swachh Bharat Mission or Clean India Mission is a nationwide campaign. It was initiated by the Indian Government in 2014.
The campaign aims at eliminating open defecation as well as improving open waste management.
Swachh Bharat Mission is the reconstructed version of the Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan which was launched in 2009 but failed to achieve its objective.
The First Phase of the Swachh Bharat Mission by the Government of India lasted till October 2019 while Phase 2 of the country-wide campaign will be implemented between 2020-21 and 2024-25.
The objective of the first phase of the mission, apart from Open Defecation, also included the eradication of manual scavenging, bringing awareness regarding sanitation practices. While the second phase of the mission aims at progressing towards the open defecation-free status and the improvement in the management of liquid and solid waste.
