India will emerge as a superpower of knowledge: Pokhriyal

New Delhi, Sep 7 (UNI) Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ on Monday said with the implementation of the new National Education Policy 2020, India will emerge as a “superpower” of knowledge in the world and become a global brand in the field of education.

Dr Pokhriyal said this while addressing a conference of governors on the new education policy here, which is being addressed by President Ramnath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Welcoming the guests to the conference through video conferencing, Dr Pokhriyal said the first education policy in the country was formulated in 1968, followed by another in 1986 and 34 years later this new education policy has brought radical change in the field of education.

“This education policy will make India a superpower of knowledge and India will emerge as a brand in the field of education all over the world,” he stated.

He said this education policy would be based on scientific thinking but would also contain Indian values and would be digital as well as remote. At the same time, it would also promote fame research and innovation.

“We will surpass the target of 50 per cent enrolment in higher education and give higher education opportunities to 3.50 crore students,” he said. He also said campuses of selected universities and educational institutions of India will also be opened abroad and 100 selected educational institutions of the world will also be given admission in India.

Dr Pokhriyal also said that “with the NEP we will achieve a self-reliant India and also achieve the goal of ‘Swachh Bharat, Shrestha Bharat’, Make in India and Digital India.”

He said that this conference would discuss various aspects of the NEP and would be implemented on that basis.
