Massive operation underway in Uri, mobile, internet services suspended

Srinagar, Sep 21 : A massive search operation was underway in the forest area along the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir district of Baramulla where an infiltration bid was foiled, officials said here on Monday.

Meanwhile, mobile and internet services have been suspended in the border town of Uri. A soldier was injured when alert troops foiled a major infiltration bid in Uri sector in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.

Official sources said that a massive search operation was going on in the woods along the LoC in Uri for the over 30 hours. “Additional reinforcements has been rushed in and the area of the search operation has been extended to sanitize the border area,” they said.

Earlier in the day on Monday, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps Lt General D P Pandey said that an infiltration attempt has been made and security forces are looking for them (militants). “It is unclear whether they are still on this side or have gone back after the infiltration attempt,” he told reporters on Monday.

However, he said troops are on high alert to foil any infiltration attempt.
