PM-WANI scheme will improve WiFi availability across length, breadth of India: PM

New Delhi, Dec 9 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said the PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) scheme that has been cleared by the Union Cabinet, will revolutionise the tech world and significantly improve the WiFi availability across the length and breadth of India.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister said, ‘Historic PM-WANI (Wi-Fi Access Network Interface) scheme that has been cleared by the Cabinet today will revolutionise the tech world and significantly improve WiFi availability across the length and breadth of India. It will further ‘Ease of Doing Business’ and ‘Ease of Living’.’

‘The scheme would enable our small shopkeepers to provide WiFi service. This will boost incomes as well as ensure our youth gets seamless internet connectivity. It will also strengthen our Digital India mission,’ the Prime Minister said in another tweet.

In a boost to public wi-fi networks, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday okayed the proposal of DoT for setting up of Public Wi-Fi Networks by Public Data Office Aggregators (PDOAs), to provide public Wi-Fi service through Public Data Offices (PDOs) spread across length and breadth of the country, to accelerate the proliferation of Broadband Internet services through Public Wi-Fi network in the country, without licence fee.

The proposal will promote the growth of Public Wi-Fi Networks in the country and, in turn, will help in proliferation of Broadband Internet, enhancement of income and employment, apart from empowerment of people.

The Public Wi-Fi Access Network Interface will be known as PM-WANI and its eco-system will be operated by different players.
