Poonch gunfight enters day 9, five detained for questioning

Jammu, Oct 19 : The gunfight between the security forces and a group of heavily armed terrorists on Tuesday has entered the ninth day in the Nar Khas forested area of Mendhar in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
However, a day after two persons were detained, security forces have also detained five more persons for allegedly providing logistics support to the terrorists.
“The gunfight has entered the ninth day with intermittent firing in progress,” official sources said.
They said that five persons have also been detained for questioning as they are suspected to have provided logistics support to the terrorists, who are believed to have sneaked into the Indian Territory around one month ago.
Army Chief General M M Naravane, who was on two-day visit, also visited forward areas along the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts and reviewed the overall security situation this morning.
“He was briefed by top Army officials on ground regarding the ongoing operations,” said Army.
Meanwhile, as per reports locals have been appealed not to enter the forest area till further announcement but police have refused any such directions issued.
Nine Army personnel including two Junior Commissioned Officers (JCOs) have been killed in the gunfight triggered in Rajouri-Poonch border districts.
