Pradyot strikes agreement with INPT and TPF ahead of ADC poll

Agartala, Oct 4 (UNI) The tribal based opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Twipra (INPT) and Tripura People’s Front (TPF) have signed an agreement with royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman’s organisation Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) last night at Shillong ahead of upcoming election to Tripura Tribal Areas
Autonomous District Council (ADC).

Pradyot has formed TIPRA, a non-political platform aiming to fight for the protection of rights of the indigenous community after leaving Congress party last year. Over the year, TIPA became a major organisation of indigenous people, which raised the voice for economic and political empowerment of the hill living communities.

Meantime, the major indigenous parties like INPT and TPF came closer to Pradyot when BJP-IPFT government in Tripura had appointed former Chief Secretary of the state G K Rao as administrator of ADC after completion of the tenure of the elected council in May this year. The seat sharing dispute of BJP and IPFT in ADC poll has encouraged them to launch an integrated fight against BJP and IPFT.

The IPFT as junior partner in Tripura government has been demanding at least 20 seats in 28 –members’ council, which BJP has not agreed to. As a result, in fight between BJP and IPFT became larger and after two rounds of talks with BJP leaders, IPFT has decided to go to Delhi for finalizing the deal soon.

However, IPFT leaders indicated unless they are given more than half seats to contest, they will fight alone in ADC like last Loksabha poll.
After meeting among Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, INPT Chief Bijay Kumar Hrangkhwal and Patal Kanya Jamatia of TPF, a tripartite agreement has signed at Tripura Castel in Shillong to make a united fight in the upcoming ADC poll.

Pradyot, however, welcomes all other regional parties to join hands for ensuring empowerment of hill people and fight against BJP. The leaders said that the agreement was only on alliance but the seat sharing formula will be finalized later. Besides, INPT is on principle keen to fight the polls in alliance with the Congress for whom seats have to be set aside but no progress has been made in this regard though on principle Congress is also ready to have an alliance with INPT for ADC polls.

In a statement, they said the alliance will fight for NRC and against CAA, detect, delete and deportation of Illegal Voters, Forest Rights Act 2006, Inner Line Permit, empowerment of TTAADC under 6th schedule including Direct Funding and land rights, Restoration of the illegally transferred land etc. Terming the alliance as ‘historical’ they said that they don’t want any illegal voters who are staying in India or in Tripura to be given genuine citizenship or voting rights.

“I have tried my best and succeeded in ensuring that INPT and TPF along with TIPRA unite unconditionally on the basis of Ideology and not elections. I will also appeal in writing to all other organisations and parties such as IPFT, TSP and Tipraha who agree with our ideology to come front and unite with us,” Pradyot stated.
