Three tremors within 4 hrs in Palghar dist; No damage to life, property

Palghar, Sep 11 (UNI) Three tremors of low intensity within a span of four hours rocked the predominantly tribal Palghar district on Friday, the district officials said. Chief of the district disaster cell, Vivekanand Kadam said tremors were experienced in the Dahanu and Talasari talukas of the district at 0329 hrs, 0357 hrs and 07.06 hrs and were measured 3.5, 3.5 and 3.6 on Richter scale respectively.

However, there was no report of any damage or casualties, he said.

During this week the district has been experiencing the tremors almost daily barring a couple of days intermittently.

On Friday last and Saturday last, a total of four tremors one of them measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale were felt in the district damaging walls of at least four houses of tribals in the Dahanu and Talasari talukas and developed cracks including the talathi office.

Dahanu Sub Divisional Officer Ashima Mittal said that Civil defense personnel has also been kept ready to assist in case of an eventuality.

Also, mock drills will be organised in the villages she said to make the people aware of the dos and don ts in case of any major incidences.

She further told this correspondent that huge tents have been put up in open grounds in the villages of these two talukas making it available to the villages to occupy them in case they feel unsafe in the houses.
