Union Fisheries Secretary Jatinder Nath Swain visited SKUAST-Jammu

Union Fisheries Secretary Jatinder Nath Swain visited SKUAST-Jammu on Friday. Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Pro. J. P. Sharma welcomed him at the University campus and gave an overview of the achievements of the university in the mandated fields. He informed different activities of fisheries undergoing at the University campus. The secretary, Sh. Jatinder visited different facilities developed for promotion of fisheries at SKAUST-J and appreciated the work. Dr Sahar Masud, Incahrge, Fisheries unit elaborated about different activities and NABARD sponsored fish seed hatchery project. Dr Akhil Gupta, Assoc. Professor, Fisheries Unit demonstrated different fish species and recent technologies in aquaculture developed under DST project. Dr Raj Kumar, Asstt. Prof. briefed about the culture practices followed at the University. Dr Prem Kumar, Scientist, KVK Jammu highlighted about the collaborative project of CIFT and SKUAST-J in fish processing to develop entrepreneurship among rural farmers.

The secretary, Department of Fisheries. GOI also visited different units of the university that includes Herbal Gardens (Sanjivani Tapovan), Raised and sunken bed model, Bee keeping unit, Mushroom unit and IFS. Hailing the efforts made by the University for welfare of farmers, he called upon scientists to think diligently to translate the research into projects for the welfare of the community. Secretary assured all help to the University besides taking up of the matter for development of fisheries at university with the Government. Director Fisheries, J&K along with other officers also accompanied the secretary.
